Obituary of Douglas Albert Smithson

Doug passed away peacefully on Friday, July 5, 2019, 20 days short of his 97th birthday.

Doug was born to Anne and Thomas Smithson on July 25, 1922. He was predeceased by his life partner, Stella (Johnson); mother Anne; father Thomas; brothers Dick, Bill, Jim, Ted, Cecil, Garth and sister Violetta.

Doug is survived by family and friends. He will be missed by all those who loved and cared for him. Doug was in the Royal Canadian Navy from 1942 – 1945. He was at Wascana Rehabilitation Centre, Veterans Ward from April 2015 to present. He loved going to the “craft room”, painting bird houses and many other things to give them away.

A special thank you to the staff on 3-5 of the Wascana Reb Centre for your care, patience and kindness, also thanks to the staff in the craft room for their many visits when Doug wasn’t doing well. As well, thank you to Amanda for your visits and playing the guitar and singing to Doug. Thank you to Chaplin Jennifer, to Sandy, Rebecca and to everyone who cared and loved Doug. His unique sense of humor will be missed by all.

Doug’s life will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 17, 2019 in the Veteran’s Wing  (Unit 3-5)  at Wascana Rehabilitation Centre, 2180 23rd Avenue, Regina, SK.   Happy Hour starts at 1:30 p.m. followed by a Memorial Service at 2:15 p.m.

Flowers gratefully declined, donations in Doug’s memory may be made to your favorite charity.
