I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of my very good friend, Annabelle. During the late 60s and early 70s she was part of a special group of people during my years in Regina. I remember her fondly, having a close relationship with her, ferrying her about, giving her wild rides up and down Albert St. late in the evenings! (I mean, on foot! Pushing her wheelchair, with her screaming with alarm and delight at the same time!) So many wonderful memories: Attending Bible studies together, picnicking, BBQs, just 'doing life'. I cherish many pictures of her in my various rented quarters and at other functions and times. Her touring us around the Legislature is a special memory. And of her many four-footed companions "Richard" stands out.
Later, when I pastored at Esterhazy during the 80s I became good friends of many from "the New Finland Woods", even obtaining a copy of the history of her family amongst that immigrant community. And from time to time we would meet in Regina for fellowship and coffee and talk about those days.
Annabelle was a special person, loved for her faith, courage and inner strength and grace from God. I look forward to one day seeing her, no longer in her chair, but dancing with our Lord!!

I would like to say that Annabelle was a strong and independent person. She was like the god-mother of the disability world here in Regina. She helped & inspired so many. She even spearheaded a housing project & sat on the board for many years even after moving out into her own apartment . Her name would come up in so many circles & conversation, people had so much to say about her.. how she helped them or her strong will, she had a huge impact on all of us. She was meticulous in everything she did or had us do for her. She knew what she wanted as her standards were high and she wouldn’t settle for anything less. We knew when we received the seal of approval that we really did a great job. Her compliments were few but sincere. She went every Saturday to the northgate mall despite the rain, snow or wind .. still wearing a dress! She would wear her hand sewn dresses with pride that her mother made her. Her Finnish background she also wore with pride, she even taught me how to count to 10 in Finnish & we I would practice while I was giving care. I was privileged to be able to tuck Annabelle into bed every night for many years . She always liked a hug at the end .. she would say “zoom zoom” and hug me tightly. God bless her and all of you that have shared in her life. She was truly an amazing lady with so much pep.
