Ronald Bearss

With great sadness and love in our hearts we announce the passing of Ronald Lorne George Bearss, of Regina, SK, on Sunday, April 21, 2024. He was predeceased by parents Willa and Ronald Bearss. Ron will be deeply missed by his surviving wife Gloria; cherished daughter Ellen (Dustin); sisters Virginia (Fred), Sharon (Nick) and Penny (Rick); brother David (Dorothy); as well as many loved nieces and nephews.

Ron grew up in the South end of Regina. He attended Argyle Elementary School where he became very familiar with the principal’s office along with his band of buddies, who continued on to become lifelong and loyal friends. He spent much of his younger years at his father and uncle's Golden West Motor Hotel - this was a great pride of his as Regina's first motel and he loved reliving memories of growing up there as well as later at the "Old Gold" nightclub.

Ron was very close to his siblings, and their mom Willa had the arduous task of containing all of the mayhem and troublemaking. He was fiercely loyal to his family and they all had immense love for one another. Ron also had many friends that were treated as family - the Bearss home was a welcoming hub of activity.

Almost from the time he learned to walk, hunting was a passion that he picked up from his father Ron. His brother, David, was his lifelong hunting partner, along with his adored dogs, and they continued their pursuits right up until this past season. Ron had many athletic talents, with a love for many sports such as baseball, football, and track, and in particular was a skillful water-skier. Along with his physical activities, he continued to hone his partying and fun-generating skills throughout high school at Sheldon Williams Collegiate and at the University of Regina, developing endless social connections and fond memories.

Being an outdoors person and knowing he did not ever want to be contained to a desk job, he embraced his strength, handywork and creativity in occupations such as construction and homebuilding, parks and recreation, and sales jobs, where he excelled at forming a clientele with his easy-going and honest demeanour. His longest employment was his 25 years at Air Canada, where he was able to take advantage of a fair amount of travelling. After his retirement he still opted to work by operating his own fencing company.

Above all else his most consuming devotion was his family…the love of his life, Gloria, and his pride and joy daughter, Ellen. His delight of being a dad shone through and filled his heart. The addition of Dustin as Ellen’s partner added a much treasured son to his family, and he left us a man with a sense of life fulfilled.

Throughout his life, Ron had many friends with whom he retained close ties and also considered family. Times of togetherness with the boys enjoying fishing, golfing, and music rejuvenated him; many days spent with true friends on Okanagan Lake created a wealth of memories and bonds; and the endless comradeship of snowmobiling, quadding, and boating with his Pasqua Lake friends created a collection of stories and remembrances. His perfect day was one spent on the boat with a drink in hand, sharing stories and laughs with anyone and everyone. After soaking up every last ray of sun, he was famous for reveling in the sunset, moon and stars, and enjoying the sounds of the lake in between bouts of rock and roll music - all while tending a far-too-large bonfire.

Ron lived life by his own rules and values. He was an expert at stopping to smell the roses. He was raised to be tough and hardy by his father, while still respectful and honest; and at the same time inherited the caring gentleness of his mother.

Ron had a love of life and a firm understanding of what was important - the simplicity of living that life with those you love. He had a terrific ride and thank you to those who made it so.

“If there is another world, he lives in bliss;

 If there is none, he made the best of this.”

- Robert Burns

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to be announced.
