Obituary of Joan Donna Elizabeth Elder

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mom, and grandma, who in the comfort of her home and surrounded by her family, went to be with her Lord and Saviour on Friday, April 29, 2022.

She will be forever remembered by husband Warren; children Doug, Leigh, and Danny; grandchildren; and her furry friends Lucy and Obi.

Mom was born in Lipton, Saskatchewan at the end of WWII. She moved with her parents Arnold and Betty Baker along with brother Barry to Regina at a young age.

After attending high school at Sheldon Williams Collegiate, she went on to graduate from U of S Regina campus with a Bachelor of Education and taught elementary school from the mid 60’s to early 70’s.

Meeting the love of her life Warren in 1971, and marrying him in 1972, she then took a break from teaching to raise her family. Never one to slow down, Mom ran a home daycare business by day and typed appraisals for her brother by night. At the age of 50 she went back into the workforce and taught grade one at Regina Christian School for the next fifteen years.

Retiring in 2011, she had more time to spend with her love Warren, her children, her 7 grandchildren, and her furry friends. Mom rediscovered her passion for travelling and organizing special getaways for the family, especially to her favourite destination Hawaii.

She had an incomparable skill for bargain shopping and interior design and ensured the customer service staff at Winners and Marshalls stayed very busy. She was actively involved in her church, Kedleston Gospel Camp, grandchildren’s activities, aquasize, going for many coffees and lunches with her dear friends, and of course never missing the daily crossword puzzle in the Leader Post.

Mom lived a vibrant life full of joy and laughter, inspiring us all to follow her example of living to the fullest.
