Obituary of Tony Neal
Tony died suddenly at home on Saturday, December 4, 2021. He will be forever missed by his spouse, Donna-Lynn Hender; his fur crew, Mookie, Winnie and Rusty; as well as his extended family and friends.
Tony was predeceased by his father, William Neal; his step-father, Ned Dudley; and step-brother, Pat Dudley. He is survived by his mother, Joan Dudley; brother, John Dudley; sisters Susan Bladyko (Joe), Mary Neal Langdon (Chris), Janice Neal Morgan (Pat), Lori Lockert (Doug), and Joyce Dudley; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Tony was a kind man of sharp intellect, a lover of music, history, travel and anything of mid-century modern design. From a very early age he read National Geographic Magazine. He knew something about practically every country in the world. Tony’s extensive reading also sparked his love of travel and photography. There aren’t a lot of photos of Tony because he was always the guy behind the camera. Tony’s breadth and depth of knowledge on so many subjects were nothing short of amazing. He was the guy you wanted on your team when you were playing Trivial Pursuit. This innate curiosity served him well in his profession as a librarian at the Regina Public Library for 25 years.
At his request there will be no funeral. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in his memory. Tony was an animal lover and had two charities of choice. Regina Alley Cats - 5629 Cederholm Avenue, Regina, SK S4W 0M9 or e-transfer to the treasurer - eberl@accesscomm.ca or the Regina Humane Society at 79 Armour Road, Regina, SK S4K 0A8 - Reginahumanesociety.ca
There’s one more way to remember Tony. Few people loved decorating for Christmas or Halloween more than Tony. Please think of him as you decorate for the holidays or hang a special ornament on your tree this year. Also consider raising a glass of cheer in his name while you decorate.
Bob Marley was among Tony’s favourite musicians. In fact, he and Donna-Lynn made 30 t-shirts with Marley’s famous phrase: One Love - One Heart for a family trip to Jamaica in 2007. The Island was an important part of the Neal family history. It was also where Tony completed his open water scuba certification. He and Donna-Lynn, often with dive buddy Pat Morgan, went on to do many more dives in the Caribbean, Sea of Cortez, and Cabo San Lucas area.
Tony was always keen for the next adventure, whether that be a fishing trip in Northern Saskatchewan with his childhood friends, a family trip to Jamaica, or an annual venture to Grasslands National Park to see the unfiltered night sky
…He is among the stars now. Shine on my love, shine on.
