Our parents were neighbors and friends. Teenaged Charlie waded into our muddy garden to rescue three-year old me stuck in the middle and unable to even lift my feet. He strode in barefoot, lifted me right out of my boots, hushed my crying and delivered me to Mum. I thought he was about six feet tall. In his early twenties, Charlie wasn't too cool or too busy to give us little girls a ride on his motorcycle at their farm. In my late teens, Charlie hosted Lynn and me at the Saskatoon exhibition one evening. WE enjoyed all the rides; HE enjoyed us enjoying the rides! He seemed to get the most out of life when giving. My sympathy to all who loved him.
