Obituary of Arnold Reuben Dyck
Arnold Dyck was born to Peter and Anna Dyck on August 22, 1936 in the district of Turnhill, Saskatchewan. He was the eldest of eight children – Ted, Lucille, Anita, Peter, Mary, Erna, and Fran. He was raised on the family farm, completing grade 11 at the small district school. He spent a few years working for local businesses and farms before attending Herbert Bible School for two years where he met and fell in love with a very sweet young lady named Lory Peters.
On June 14, 1958 they were married before God, family and friends, they pledged marriage vows to each other, with Lory’s dad officiating. They lived in Swift Current for six years, just down the street from Lory’s parents. During this time, God blessed them with three sons, Ronald, David and Kenneth.
In 1964 Dad and mom moved to Regina Saskatchewan where dad secured a job at Lakeside Chrysler. He eventually started a sales career at DeFehr Furniture in 1969, transferred to Saskatoon in 1975, and back to Regina in 1986. He completed his sales career in Winnipeg with Palliser Furniture and retired in 2000. Dad viewed his job as more than a career, but a calling in life. His fondest career memories included the relationships he built with furniture store owners in Manitoba.
As a young man, Dad enjoyed many activities with baseball, hockey, and camping topping the list. In mid-life, snowmobiling was a passion and it became a family sport. As time moved on, the more physical sports were replaced by golfing and fishing. He also found great pleasure in playing, visiting and building relationships with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Arnold accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at an early age and was baptized in 1957, joining the Bethania MB Church – Beaver Flats SK. His Christian faith was very important to him, and he was quite bold in proclaiming his faith throughout his life. He and mom were active members in all the churches they attended, and dad held numerous positions of leadership, including many years with the Saskatchewan branch of the Gideons. However, he found the greatest pleasure leading in Christian Service Brigade, where he and other godly men invested countless hours building relationships and spiritually mentoring his sons and other young men of the church.
On Friday June 21st, Dad was admitted to the hospital with injuries suffered from a bad fall. A significant heart attack while in the hospital eventually led to dad’s final move to glory. On June 27th, with mom by his side, dad passed away peacefully and was welcomed into heaven and the open arms of Jesus.
Today we mourn the loss of a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather.
