Obituary of James Patrick Brennand

Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

The family of James Patrick Brennand sadly announce his passing on April 25 2019. Born in Liverpool, UK, and n 1953, being very brave, he brought his young wife and daughter to Canada, to begin a great adventure. Prior to coming to Canada, he served in the RAF for 3 years.  He was a brilliant man, never backing down from a good debate about any of the many issues that he was passionate about.  He was a frequent contributor to the Opinions feature in the Regina Leader-Post.  He loved animals and could always be seen walking his two dogs regardless of the weather.  But most importantly, he cared for his family and provided well for them with wisdom, support, pride and love.  We had wonderful summer holidays every year and then a cabin at his favourite place, Pelican Point.  So many good times to remember.  He was the best poppa, and his grandchildren have dozens of stories about their relationship with him.  His love of singing the old British pub songs to them, babysitting them while totally disregarding any rules their parents had, helping them with homework, being their friend, their mentor and their safe place.  He had stories to tell, fully enrapturing them with his adventures as a child, or living through WWII.  And, we all laugh about his wine making days, and how much wine ended up on the floor during a pour.  And, through all of this, his vision was severely dimmed by macular degeneration. Even still, he worked on his computer, barely seeing the keys.  He never gave up. During his many years working at Ipsco (Evraz) as electrical engineer, he ensured that they got the best and most efficient technologies available.  Always on call, and ready with solutions whenever problems arose, he was a man you could depend on.  He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Eileen, his daughter Lynne (Carmen) Browne of Strathmore, AB, his son Shaun (Lorie) of Regina, his grandchildren, Jamie, Elanna and Liam, and his great-grandchildren, Brooklynn, Grace and Luke.  No service by request.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the Regina Humane Society, of which Jim was president for many years, or the Regina Cat Rescue.
