Obituary of Walter August Arndt

Please share a memory of Walter to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with heavy hearts the family of Walter Arndt, announce his passing after a lengthy battle with cancer on Tuesday, March 5, 2019, at the age of 85 years. Walter will be lovingly remembered by his wife of almost 58 years, Marlene and by his children, Debbie (Robert), Lisa, Mat (Annette), Dan (Becky), Kathy (Gerald), and Terry (Garnet). Walter will also be lovingly remembered by all of his 12 grandchildren, his 4 great-grandchildren, and by his mother-in-law Dorothy Young. Walter was predeceased by his oldest son Ron.

I was born on a farm south of Arcola SK, on July 24, 1933 to August and Johanna (nee Schendel) Arndt. I am the oldest of nine children (seven boys and two girls). Following me is Theodore Karl (passed away 2014); Dorothy Anna; Edward Frederick; Donald William; Albert Leo; Kenneth Paul; Richard Charles; and Loretta Louise.

On March 18, 1961 I married Marlene Young. We were blessed with five children - Debra Lynn (husband Robert); Ronald Charles (passed April 1999); Lisa Marlene; Mathew August (wife Annette); and Daniel Robert (wife Becky). We were also blessed to inherit two special daughters, Kathy (husband Gerald); and Terry (husband Garnet).  We have been blessed with 12 grandchildren - Shaunna (Ray); Nicki (Mike); Starla (Adam); Della (Taylor); Kayla (Chris); Amanda (Brandon); Samantha (Jon); David; Clover (James); Saul; Jacob; and Jorja. We have also been blessed with four great-grandchildren – Sarah; Lily, Evelyn; and Claire. What a legacy that we have to enjoy!

I lived my life as a mechanic and then achieved my dream becoming a teacher of mechanics and metal lathe and milling. I toured the province of Saskatchewan from east to west and north to south and loved every mile of it.

Marlene and I spent the majority of our lives in Regina SK. We spent many summers out at Sherwood Forest enjoying the summer-life with friends and family. In 2012, Marlene and I moved to Norwest Housing Co-op. The best move we ever made. We have made so many good and treasured friends here.

I have had great blessings in my life including my church family at Prince of Peace Lutheran and my many friends at Regina Small Engines Group.

Marlene and I were fortunate to tour different parts of Canada, the United States, the Yukon, and a place that really touched our hearts, Prince Edward Island - truly a land of dreams. We made one very special trip to Bermuda with Deb and Rob to visit Lisa - we really enjoyed that trip.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 935 McCarthy Blvd., Regina, SK. A private interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Walter’s memory to the Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan or the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
