MCWHINNEY, Richard

Richard “Rik” McWhinney of Regina passed away peacefully at the Palliative Care Unit, Pasqua Hospital in Regina, SK on Saturday, January 19, 2019, at the age of 67. Rik is survived by his sisters Barbara Dale Marcano of Elkhorn, MB and Jamie (Douglas) Callan of Neustadt, ON. Rik is also survived by Aunt Isabel Evanochko of Winnipg, MB, Uncle & Aunt Walter & Myrna Churchill of Virden, MB, Uncle & Aunt Bruce & Jean McWhinney of Sault Ste. Marie, ON, Uncle & Aunt Hugh & Wilma McWhinney of Calgary, AB; one niece, several nephews, cousins and longtime special friend Sister ReAnne Letourneau. Rik was predeceased by his mother & step father Josephine & Russell Ernewein and his father William McWhinney. The family would like to thank Sr. ReAnne and Sr. April and all the doctors and nurses (especially Shannon and Ailyn) at Pasqua Hospital for their care and compassion shown to Rik in his final days. A special thanks to Jan and Tammy for the therapy dog and cat visits. Rik was an animal lover and the visits gave him comfort. Thank you as well to members of Friends on the Outside (FOTO) and everyone who called and visited Rik while in hospital. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. with Funeral Mass to follow at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 24, 2019, at Campion College Chapel, 3737 Wascana Parkway, Regina, SK. Cremation and interment to follow. Donations in Rik’s memory may be made to FOTO or Campion College.
