Obituary of Ruth A. McGill
RUTH A. MCGILL
The family wishes to announce the peaceful passing of Ruth A. McGill (nee Colburn) on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at the age of 84 years. Ruth was predeceased by her parents: Clayton Eugene and Margaret Alberta (nee Dibblee) Colburn; son David ‘Dave’ McGill; great-grandson Greyson Prang; sons-in-law: Ward Maskewich and Gary Preston; former husband Robert ‘Bob’ McGill; siblings: Hazel ‘Baby Jean’ Colburn, Garry Colburn, niece Elaine; nephews James McGill and Ronald Sharpe (who was like a brother); brothers-in-law: Steve Hungle, Malcolm Borgerson, Paul Durand and Clayton Phillips; Step-siblings and in-laws: Edith (Dave) Smart, Earl (Catherine) Colburn, Vera (Johnny) Shea, Verna (Erwin) Koehler. Ruth was born in Regina, SK. She is lovingly remembered and cherished by her six remaining children and in-laws: Doug Blackhurst (Sharon Hassard), Dan (Mary) McGill, Linda (Kerry) Crump, Cathy Preston, Susan McGill and Karen Maskewich; daughter-in-law Anneliese McGill; 16 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Edna Phillips, Hazel Durand and Patricia Borgerson; sisters-in-law: Bev Colburn and Tillie McGill; brother-in-law William (Judy) McGill; numerous nieces, nephews and special friends. Mom was a very caring and loving person, whose passion was writing poems and stories. She enjoyed reading, walking, dancing, and learning whatever she could. Once the younger ‘girls’ were in school Mom went back for upgrading and making all of us so proud when she obtained her Bachelor of Social Work at the University of Regina – which set the standard for the rest in the family. Mom worked for the Saskatchewan Government Alcohol and Drug Addiction Centre as an Addictions Counselor for 20 years where she touched the lives of so many before retiring in 1998. First and foremost, Mom especially enjoyed family time – the events at Candy Cane Park got larger and larger every year! We all looked forward to attending them. She always tried to have one-on-one whenever possible with the grandchildren. Mom always looked forward to when the ‘girls’ Edna, Hazel and Pat could get together! As per Mom’s wishes, she has been cremated and will be laid to rest with ‘Baby Jean’. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 8, 2017 at the Regina Cemetery on Broad Street and 4th Avenue with a luncheon to follow at 12:00 PM at the Broadway United Church, 105 Broadway Ave., Regina, SK. The family wishes to thank Remy and “the staff” at Cherished Hearts Personal Care Home who lovingly looked after Mom for almost seven years up until early August and to the staff at Parkside Extendicare who helped to make her final days comfortable and supported our family. In lieu of flowers, family and friends so wishing may make donations in memoriam to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan, 2550 12th Ave., Regina, SK, S4P 3X1; Parkinson Canada 316, 4211 Yonge St, Toronto, ON, M2P 2A9; Parkinson SuperWalk - search Team Ruth at http://donate.parkinson.ca/site/TR?pg=entry&fr_id=1957 or the charity of your choice.
In Loving Memory
