Dickson Harold Rognvaldson Bailey

Dickson passed away on May 14, 2017. Husband to Priscilla; father to Daniel (Carey), Kenzie (Jamie), Jessica (Kris), Brendan (Lisa), and Elizabeth (Jocelyn); and Papa to 15 grandchildren. Dickson was born in Kapuskasing, ON, to Harold and Vera Bailey both of which predeceased Dickson. He was the fourth of five children: Jonina (David), Gwen who predeceased Dickson, Gwen’s spouse Bruce (Janice), Marcail (John), and Glen (Sable). Involvement with the Older Boys’ Parliament (ON) sparked Dickson’s passion for governmental affairs. He completed an M.A. in Political Science (McMaster) and held positions with the Government of Saskatchewan from the 1970’s-90’s. In his career he was especially interested in democratic reform. Between 1999 and 2012, Dickson took contracts in Albania, Kosovo, Georgia, Afghanistan and Guyana. Dickson was honoured with the Medal for Outstanding Civic Merit (Albania, 2003) and the Saskatchewan Centennial Medal (2006). He will be remembered as an unstoppable force and kind soul who loved to garden, cheer on the Blue Jays, needlepoint in the evenings, and as author of several volumes of “Dad’s Bad Jokes”. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, May 19, 2017 at Wesley United Church, 3913 Hillsdale St., Regina, SK.
