Please share a memory of Peter to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Peter Eric Gehl 1952 -2016 With great sadness we announce the passing of Peter Gehl on Tuesday, October 18, at the age of 64. After a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer Peter’s final decision was honoured and made possible by the recent adoption of Bill C14. He passed away peacefully with his brothers by his side. Peter is lovingly remembered by his brothers: David (Roberta), Robert (Bernadette) and William (Joanne); nieces and nephews and their children: Ryan (Delphine) and Zachary; Angela, Olivia, Ethan and Joel; Richard (Lacey), Lyndon and Grace: Matthew (Buffy); John; Adrienne and Ian. He was predeceased by his father Pete Gehl Sr. in 2001 and his mother Edith in 2013. Peter was born on July 29, 1952 in Regina, Saskatchewan, the first of four sons. Peter grew up on the Gehl family farm near Bethune, Saskatchewan until 1964 when the family moved to a farm at Brora, north of Regina. He graduated from Martin Collegiate in Regina after which he achieved a Bachelor of Engineering degree from the University of Saskatchewan. Following several years in private industry Peter accepted a position with the Saskatchewan Department of Agriculture Conservation and Land Improvement Branch which became Sask. Water (a.k.a. the Saskatchewan Water Security Agency) with whom he remained employed for thirty-eight years. He was dedicated to his job and his colleagues. Following the family tradition Peter was actively involved in progressive movements for peace and social justice his entire adult life. Peter was a kind and generous man who believed in hard work, honest and frank relations and in doing to others as you would have them do to you. He was active in the Regina Peace Council, Regina Peace Quest, the Canadian Peace Congress and Canadians for Peace and Socialism. Peter was beloved by his family and friends and will live long in their memories. A Memorial Service for Peter will be held in Regina at a later date. Donations in his memory may be made to the Regina Peace Council c/o P.O. Box 496, Cupar, Sask. S0G 0Y0. The family wishes to express its sincere gratitude to the staff of the Regina-Qu’Appelle Health Region who attended to him with compassion during his illness and to all of his friends and colleagues who visited with him over the course of his last days. Those visits brought him much happiness and comfort.
