Obituary of Barry Wayne Triffo

Please share a memory of Barry to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of our dear husband, father and grandad, Barry Triffo of Regina, SK at the age of 80 years. Barry fought a courageous and short battle with cancer and passed away with his family by his side on Saturday, November 2, 2024. On this day, the Triffo family was reunited as Barry joined his parents, Mary and Ludwig Triffo, and all of his eight siblings in heaven.

Barry grew up in Silton, SK where he helped his mother and siblings on the farm after losing his father when he was only 10 years old.

Barry attended the Brantford School for the Blind in Brantford, ON from 1955 to 1959 with his brothers Arthur and Leonard.

Barry met his loving wife and partner Jean in 1967, and they were married in 1969. Barry and Jean were blessed with 55 years of marriage on September 27, 2024. Together they raised two children, Sharla and Kevin, who blessed them with five grandchildren, Ava, Declan, Isaac, Dylan, and Malaya.

Barry had many jobs through the years. He worked as a farm hand, a tree planter at Rowans Ravine, in the General Hospital and the Sask Wheat Pool Canteens, and he made brooms at Broomcraft in Regina. After Barry and Jean moved to Earl Grey in 1978 to seek a safer and quieter place to raise their kids, they opened two local cafés, ran a septic business with his nephew, and operated a Sask-Made Noodle Factory.

In 1993, Barry and Jean moved back to Regina. Barry soon found himself joining a bowling league and a curling team through the Canadian Council for the Blind with his brother Leonard. He also enjoyed playing cribbage, and attending many tournaments over the years.

Once his grandchildren arrived, Barry was a happy caregiver for them with his loving wife. He loved them all dearly and enjoyed spending time with them as often as he could.

Barry was predeceased by his parents Ludwig and Mary; siblings Rynold, Arthur, Fred (Jeanne), Agnes (Werner), Leonard, Allan, Rodney and Peggy; grandson Paxton; and nephews Roger and Mike. He is survived by his wife Jean; children Sharla and Kevin (Jennifer); grandchildren Ava (Alec), Declan, Isaac, Dylan and Malaya; sisters-in-law Charlotte, Sandi and Margaret; as well as many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

We wish to thank all the staff of Unit 4B in the Pasqua Hospital and the William Booth Grace Hospice for all the amazing care they gave him over the 10 weeks of his illness.
