Obituary of Mary Taschuk

Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

A life well lived has come to an end with the passing of Mary Pollyanna Taschuk (née Markewich) on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at the age of 95.

Mary was predeceased by her husband David in 2010. She outlived her parents Sarah and Nicholas; brother Nick; and two stepsisters Helen and Lillian. Mary is survived by her only son Chris (Janice), with no grandchildren.  She is also survived by two sisters-in-law and several cousins that remained close.

Born in Moose Jaw, SK, Mary grew up on a nearby farm in Grayburn. After attending business school and working in Moose Jaw, she moved to Edmonton where she joined the Motor Vehicle Department. It was there that she met her future husband, Dave. They married in 1957 and shared 53 wonderful years together until Dave’s passing. Their son, Chris, was born when Mary was 37, after which she dedicated herself to the home. Dave’s promotions at Gulf Oil led the family to live in Kamloops, Regina, Calgary, and eventually back to Regina, where they settled.

For 50 years, Mary was deeply involved with Beta Sigma Phi, a women’s sorority organization that served the various communities in which she lived. Through this, she built many lasting friendships.

After Dave’s passing, Mary continued to live independently in her condo for the remainder of her life. She formed new friendships there and took pleasure in watching the wildlife from her deck overlooking a nearby lake. Weekly lunch outings with her son and daughter-in-law brought her joy in her later years.
