Obituary of Elizabeth Serediuk

Please share a memory of Elizabeth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

On Friday, September 27, 2024, Elizabeth “Liz” Serediuk of Regina, SK passed away peacefully at the William Booth Grace Hospice.

Elizabeth Serediuk was born on April 21, 1937 on the farm near Maybridge (Sec 13, Tp 35, Rge 32, W 1st, Sask.) to parents Teodor “Fred” and Warwara “Barbara” Serediuk who immigrated to Canada from Danzig, Poland on June 8, 1930 along with two young daughters, Helena “Helen” and Marja “Mary” and paternal grandmother Elisaweta.

Liz was predeceased by her loving partner Henry Koch, parents Fred and Barbara Serediuk; sisters Helen Maksymchuk, Mary Krakalovich and Nell Serediuk; brothers-in-law Metro Maksymchuk, Peter Krakalovich; infant nephew Ronnie Maksymchuk; nephew David Maksymchuk, and nephew Larry Krakalovich and his wife Judy Krakalovich.

Liz is survived by nieces Sandra (Gary) Babin Graham and Barbara Hillstrom; nephews Bill (Pat) Maksymchuk, Dennis (Marie) Maksymchuk and Donald (Deb) Maksymchuk; step-daughters, Gloria (Tim) and Yvonne (Ron) as well as many other relatives and close friends.

Liz was the kindest and most optimistic fun-loving person.  She just had a way of uplifting you and was always positive despite many medical problems.  She was a joy to be around and everyone, including the many doctors and nurses and caregivers loved this about her.

She always said, “when life gives you lemons, make lemonade.”  And she did.

She made you feel special, and we all felt it!

Liz grew up on her father’s farm near Maybridge, SK.  She and Nell moved to Swan River, MB to find work and then later to Regina where they shared a small apartment and then later to Rainbow Towers along with her mother (Baba) for a time.

She worked at the Capitol Theatre until it closed and then for her dear friend, Gerri at Gerri’s Jewelry store where she eventually met Henry.

Liz and Henry lived in Regina for many years and after some time, they retired to a sweet little cabin on East Bay of Delaronde Lake, where they became part of the country community of Big River.  They had a large dog named Buddy, who was a good friend and protector to them.

Many friends, relatives and neighbours visited them by boat, snow mobiles, quads, trucks and motor homes.  Their hospitality, although simple, was second to none and many fish fries and wiener roasts and home-made meals were made and enjoyed throughout the years.

Her life was full, and she travelled to the U.S. with Henry, to Hawaii many times with Nell and even to Acapulco with her niece Sandra.

She was apt at filleting fish, picking berries and wild mushrooms and cooking meals from scratch.  She was a sharp dresser and a thrifty one at that!

She sewed many quilts on a treadle sewing machine for her loved ones and crocheted many dishcloths and tablecloths to keep herself busy.  But she was also a true artist and hand painted on mushroom-like burls (that grow on the side of a tree) with beautiful scenes. Many people treasure these paintings as gifts and she was also able to sell many over the years.

Liz was very close with all her sisters, but her, Mary, and Nell resembled each other because of their red hair.  One time Liz was in the Bay store shopping and thought she saw Mary and called out to her only to discover that it was just a mirror.  They all had a laugh over that one!

Her family and Henry’s meant everything to her and she was a doting aunt and ‘grandma’.  She had many close friends whom she cherished.  We all have so many lasting memories.

Liz spent the last two years in the Marie Manor Care Home in Regina where she had wonderful caregivers.  Her last days were spent at the William Booth Grace Hospice also in Regina.

A Graveside Service for family and close friends will be held at the Regina Cemetery, 4th Avenue Entrance, block 160 in Regina on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at 1:00 p.m.  A light luncheon will be held after the interment with location announced at the Service.
