Obituary of Anne Schonhoffer
Anne passed on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at the age of 96.
Anne was born near Cupar, SK and spent her early years on a farm south of town, attending Glenn Murray Country School. After her father died in 1937, the family lost the farm. Anne’s mother and the six children moved to Cupar. Lean times followed, but with hard work and thrift, the family pulled through.
Anne graduated from Normal School in 1946 and then became a country schoolteacher, first near Benson and then near Dysart, both in Saskatchewan. At Dysart, she met and married Alfred Schonhoffer; a union that lasted nearly 69 years until his death in 2018.
Having married a farmer, Anne found you not only marry a man but also a farm. She was often run off her feet, with farm work and raising a family. In spite of that, she always made time for community work and family. Anne was always on the move.
After they sold the farm at Kipling in 1974 and moved to Regina, she was never idle, always active. Anne remained physically and mentally sound into her early 90s, when an unfortunate fall disabled her. She spent her last few years in care at Santa Maria Senior Citizens Home, but always managed to be cheerful and kind.
At 96, Anne was the last of her siblings and in-laws. She is survived by her sons Jim (Gail) and Tom; daughter Denise (Rob) Arthur; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces nephews, and a large circle of friends, all of whom she cherished. Her kindness touched many people.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 13, 2024 at Holy Rosary Cathedral, 2104 Garnet Street, Regina, SK.
