Devin came to Provincial Airways as a young commercial pilot graduate with an enthusiasm, and passion for Agricultural Aviation. He knew he’d have to work hard to earn a flying position, and for two years he was one of the best ground crew members you could ask for. Consistently surpassing expectations and rising to meet all challenges.
In addition to pursuing his original career path in Aerial Application, he recognized our need for a quality flight instructor and again demonstrated his dedication to our company by earning his flight instructor rating.
Devin was a reliable person that gave 110% to any position he took on. Whether it was as a loader putting in the long hours loading the planes, a flight instructor or as an Aerial application pilot. Devin approached each job with the focus and dedication required to excel.
Not only did Devin succeed at every challenge we put forth, but his professionalism and kindness towards students, customers and his fellow workers was admirable. Many of our new young employees and our flight training students looked up to Devin as a leader and the example of where they would like to end up professionally.
No matter how mundane a day was developing to be, Devin would roll in with his Hawaiian shirt, aviator glasses, leather jacket, and just bring a smile to everyone’s face. Everyone enjoyed being able to spend a little time with him in the workplace.
Not only did we lose our valued colleague and coworker we lost a good friend, and we will miss him!

A dear friend who was lost too soon, I hold onto the memories we shared. Devin was the most ambitious person I’ve ever met, with a mentality that drew people in. If I made a suggestion I was unsure about, he’d jump in and say, "Let’s do this!" with no hesitation. He never backed down from anything. His presence reminded me that life could be driven and fun at the same time.
Devin wasn’t just a friend, he was a mentor. The lessons he taught me are ones I’ll carry with me always.
I’ll always think back on our time together with a smile. Fly high, dear friend.

Devin’s Poem:
When you were born, I was 7 years old,
And one of the first baby cousins I got to hold.
From that first moment, you became my little pal,
When you wanted to be carried, I was your gal.
For years to come, I watched you learn to sit, crawl, and walk,
But things got even more fun when you learned how to talk.
You made us giggle with your funny words,
Some of the silliest pronunciations we'd ever heard.
"Coitney," "poiple," and "fwip fwops" to name a few,
You kept us laughing as you grew.
You were always a family guy,
Oh, the memories we made at each gathering, no lie.
Fireworks on summer nights, the sparkle in your eyes,
Chasing the cousins under big, open skies.
You'd be there cheering whenever I played ball,
Whether volleyball or science fair, you showed up for it all.
Holidays on the farm, where joy had no end,
Puttering with Grandpa, or in the bouncy castle we'd descend.
And with Grandma we watched TV in piles, chips and Boost all around,
Never a dull moment, laughter was the sound.
Then Grandma and Grandpa moved into the city,
But the fun we all had didn’t miss a beat, not even a little bitty.
Grandma’s perogies at every family feast,
And her sandwiches—the best snacks, to say the least!
You loved saving money, always had a plan,
With each visit, you’d tell us about your next big stand.
What you were saving up for, whether big or small,
You dreamed with ambition that made us proud, all in all.
You were gentle and caring, always so sweet,
With that smile on your face, each time we would meet.
No matter what, you brought joy and light,
A cousin, a friend, a presence so bright.
You followed your dreams, and we watched you take flight,
Joining the cadets, your future in sight.
With each soaring plane, you made us all proud,
Aiming for the sky and standing tall in the crowd.
Growing up with you was a gift from the start,
All those years together have warmed my heart.
Though time moves on, and things change as they do,
The memories with you, Devin, will forever be true.

I initially saw Devin in 2017 when the other power pilot cadets and I in St.Andrews, Manitoba would drive down to Gimli that year to attend the Gimli dance. I would later see Devin again at Mount Royal University for the aviation program and I got the chance to formally meet him. We faced alot adversity during our time together such as the onset of the pandemic which led to the uncertainty of our careers ahead. However, Devin was someone who was always positive and had a great mindset. He was always striving to achieve the next goal in life and not let any external factors hinder his perseverance. Eventually, I became an instructor at Mount Royal and would see Devin come back to finish off his training. Devin was a skilled aviator and his professionalism was exceptional. Devin represented the Air Cadet Program and Mount Royal University with pride and I am honored to have worked alongside him as a colleague and friend.
I am heartbroken to hear of his passing but I am so happy that he was able to accomplish so much in his life and at such a young age. I will see you soon one day dear friend.
Fly High,
Akhil.

I have spent nearly half of my life side by side with Devin, but it's only now that I realize just how many of my stories begin with "so Devin and I were...".
To me, he was an advisor, guide, inspiration, and most importantly a friend. I can say without a doubt that without having him as a companion, trailblazer, and competition I would be in a completely different place now.
I am sure I will be retelling some of our ridiculous adventures for years to come (maybe even with some of Devin's special propensity for 'slight exaggeration'); but I hope I also remember the important stuff. Devin was bold, capable, and kind; he was able to achieve success, and then share it with others.
While I miss him greatly, I truly appreciate all the time we spent together, and all the things I learned from him.

I met Devin through Cadets, we curled against each other and he was even my Sgt at a camp, we became really good friends. It breaks my heart that his charisma and joy that he brought is gone so soon. Sending all my love to his family ❤️

Devin, I met you when you were about 12 years old, joining Air Cadets. You joined my marksmanship team later and I was so happy. You were a fast learner and willing to try new things. The smile and positive attitude ALWAYS was a joy. Didn't matter how bad my day was, you always seemed to make it better. I'll miss you my friend. Glad you achieved what you did in the world of aviation.

Hello Everyone. My name is Gavin Stonehouse and I know Devin from Provincial Airways. Some of you might have noticed that my outfit is Devin inspired. I’ve got the Hawaiian shirt and the mustache, although I just couldn’t get mine as thick as his. When we shared a room in Banff earlier this year I was envious of his hair, so he let me use his product. A few months later he gave me the exact same one as a gift and I still have it. It’s the small gestures of friendship that one remembers. Things like this strengthened our lasting friendship.
As I speak about Devin today, I will be using the present tense and referring to him in the now. I believe he is in our hearts and minds now just as much.
If you know Devin you know that he is a very proud person. Proud of his family, proud of his love for his country, and proud of what he does for a living. On numerous occasions he spoke at length of his family, his parents, sister, partner and extended family, and how much they mattered to him. His country, through the stories of being in cadets, the importance of showing respect for Remembrance Day and his desire to serve his country. His career, he is proud of the planes that he flew and the job that he had. He is proud of his plane, and I have never seen it as clean as when he flew it.
Lastly I want to say how he changed my life. Over 20 years ago, I had dreams of flying an airplane. In a room full of individuals involved in the Aviation industry, this may not seem too unobtainable. However, as a young person in a career in accounting, I never thought that it was ever possible. Fast forward to last year, he was my flight instructor. His passion for aviation is profound. He went over and above what was required of his role as a flight instructor. I’m grateful for all the time we spent together before and after our flight lessons, our coffee dates to make sure I understood the lessons, and all the times we relaxed and got to know each other more. I’m currently just shy of getting my commercial pilots license. I owe it to Devin for making my dreams come true. I love you Dude and thank you for making such an impact on my life.

Dear Matileg family, friends and fellow aviators,
It is with heavy hearts that we extend our deepest condolences on the passing of Devin, a cherished member of our aviation family. Devin played a vital role as an instructor and an aerial applicator, leaving an indelible mark on our community.
Devin's passion for aviation was contagious. His dedication to teaching and mentoring aspiring pilots inspired countless individuals to take flight, and Devin always went above and beyond to support our shared love for the skies.
As we reflect on his legacy, let us remember him for his professional achievements and the kindness, encouragement, and camaraderie he brought to our airfield. His absence will be deeply felt, but the memories we’ve shared will continue to lift our spirits as we navigate the open skies.
May Devin's wings now carry him to eternal horizons, where he can soar freely among the clouds. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time.
Fair winds and blue skies, dear friend. You will be missed.
Sincerely,
Greg Simpson

Taken far too soon, this incredible young man's outlook for the future was encouraging and infectious, so full of energy and excitement.
Devin had BIG dreams and unbelievable goals, he researched everything and was so knowledgeable. I looked so forward to our business meetings, I loved listening to his strategic approach. His thoughtful curiosity made the hours seem like minutes . He was a great listener and spoke with such intelligence, he took in all the words and advice that everyone ever shared with him and understood it.
Devin achieved everything he set his mind to and accomplished more in his short time than many achieve in a life time.
He loved his family, with the highest regard to his mom and grandma, who he lovingly looked up to for wisdom, advice and support.
Our deepest condolence to Devin's family and friends. Our heart breaks with you!
Until we meet again young man, may your new wings of a sweet angel, soar and bring comfort to those who are missing you now and may you spread your angel dust of your infectious energy where it is most needed.
