Obituary of John Wieler Doerksen

DOERKSEN, John Wieler

1953 –2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of John Wieler Doerksen on Monday, June 3, 2024, at the age of 71. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Carlee (Noel) Hansen, Jeremy Doerksen and Gregory (Hillary) Doerksen; grandchildren, Dominic, Keltey, and Neveah; siblings, Esther, Sara, Dave and Ben (Ann); sisters-in-law, Janet and Diana; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He will also be remembered by the mother of his children, Heike (Don) Edwards. John was predeceased by his mother, Helen; father, David; stepmother, Aganetha; and brothers, Peter, Jac and Abe (in infancy); and brother-in-law, John.

John was born in Randolph, MB, where he grew up on the family farm and worked and played with his siblings. After high school, John went on to become a journeyman carpenter and then a structural engineering technologist. Finally, he and his family settled in Regina in 1994 and opened The Wine Cellar where he built many special relationships.

John had a rich sense of humour, and his laugh was contagious. He had a kind heart and gave the best bear hugs. John had many favourite things but could only bear to adore them one at a time, for example, beeswax candles, tea, olives, sardines, and chips & dip. Those who knew him well always wondered what the latest favourite thing was. John was very generous but would always love to jokingly point out that “it’s not cheap, you know.”

We’ll miss you, dad. Rest in peace.

There will be a private memorial for immediate family at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
