Obituary of Rod Welsh
Joseph Roderick Gilbert Welsh
1936-2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and great-grandfather, Rod Welsh Sr., after a long battle with kidney failure and dialysis. Thank you for the excellent care from Dr. B. Prasad and Rod’s angel nurses, Rod survived 16 years on dialysis, until his passing on Thursday, February 1, 2024 at the age of 87 years.
Rod will be dearly missed by his wife of 67 years, Lorene; children Roddy Jr. (Valerie) and Becky (Garth); grandchildren Micheal (Amanda), Andrew, Dwayne and Brian; great-grandchildren Caden, Anthony and Benjamin; as well as his extended family. Rod will be at peace with his parents Norbert and Elizabeth Welsh; sons Armend and Aaron; and brother Bernard
Rod worked hard all his life. He met the love of his life, Lorene, at an early age and they were wed in 1957. Rod and Lorene started a family and had four children. In his early life, he worked as a cement finisher and truck driver, then started with the Saskatchewan Government until his retirement, where they retired to an acreage by Lintlaw, SK.
Rod loved to fish and hunt. He was an avid Roughrider fan and loved all sports. Rod had a love of all genres of music, especially Metis fiddling music. He loved coaching baseball in Grand Coulee and, in the winter, he would flood the skating rink for all the children of Grand Coulee. Rod was respected in Grand Coulee by all the children who grew up and still call him Mr. Welsh.
Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 8, 2024 at St. Cecilia RC Parish, 5020 7th Avenue, Regina, SK. Donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
