I loved working with Jeanie and will miss her easy-going, fun demeanor, and her hilarious commentary. She and worked on a number of her children’s books together— Jeanie at the keyboard, and me at the drawing board. She gave me free artistic range and was a delight to work with.

Jean was first my manager, then my colleague and finally my lifelong friend. Jean's amazing contributions to our arts and cultural community were incredible. Still, I will remember her most as a kind, giving, supportive and beautiful soul, who was gifted with both a sense of humor and humility. She always made time for friends and had an uncanny ability to brighten your day through just her presence. I am thankful I knew Jean for such a long period of time. Your life lessons will remain with me the rest of my life.

I first met Mrs. Freeman -- as I will always know her -- sometime in October 1973, shortly after I started at Davin School and became inseparable friends with Mitch. What followed were many years of lunches, suppers, birthday parties, sleepovers, and assorted shenanigans that likely tried the patience of everyone in the house on Retallack Street or out at the cottage on Katepwa Lake.
Since I moved away from Regina after high school, I would only occasionally see Mrs. Freeman when I would happen to run into her when I was back home visiting. Regardless of how busy she was with her latest project -- and she always had a project on the go -- she would find the time to have a little chat and to catch up. Later on, I was also very fortunate to have the odd tea with her at the College Park Residence when I was there visiting my mother. Age never seemed to dull the twinkle in her eye and her easy good humour.
I will remember Mrs. Freeman as a woman of unpretentious elegance, always with a smile on her lips and a kind word for everyone.
To Willa, Jack, and your families, please accept my heartfelt condolences. Though her passing will leave a big hole in your lives, may your memories of the person she was bring you comfort and, hopefully, a smile now and again. I think she would like that.

Dear Jean & Family
Jean, you are one of those very special people that we are sometimes fortunate enough to have known during our lifetimes. You were such an asset to Saskatchewan and to the creative world, and to the wonderful team I was privileged to lead at SaskTel. You, with your many skills and your leadership, taught us all profound lessons, professional and personal. All who knew you were so fortunate to be graced by your presence. Your legacy lingers on, my friend.

I first met Jean Freeman when I was in grade 9 in a high school play and she was a hostess at a regional drama festival in Yorkton almost 70 years ago. What I remember about her is that she and Rolla Markham took us kids under their wings and made us feel more at home and generally better with being nervous about the competition. For the rest of her life Jean maintained an interest in the fine art of dramatics, broadcasting and on occasion performing herself. She took a genuine interest in the people and she was generous in her moral support. She will be genuinely missed. Sympathy to those close to her.

I am saddened to hear of Jean’s passing. She was a warm, loving, smart, talented, and funny woman.
I was fortunate to have met her at a young age and for our paths to have crossed many times over the years. Jean and Bill always welcomed the friends of their children to their house on Retallack Street. I shared a birthday with their late son, Mitch, and Jean and my mom alternated hosting birthday parties for us when we were young school kids. She gave me my first break in community theatre as a ten year old in a play for the Regina Centennial that Jean wrote. Her wonderful husband, Bill, led our school band and taught me to play the saxophone. Jean hired me in my first tech job, at Cable Regina, and convinced me I could sell and install cable systems. Years later, I was glad to return the favour by hiring her for communications work at SaskTel, where she had worked for many years (and where she earned a devoted following of fans among her colleagues). I still remember her words of encouragement for me when we were working together.
As a friend and fan, I was always thrilled to see her in her recurring role on Corner Gas.
Jean exemplified the best of Saskatchewan; creative, resilient, progressive, community-spirited, and caring.
I send my heartfelt condolences to Jack, Willa, and all Jean’s family, and many, many friends.

I met Jean in the early 80's. I was privileged to be selected by Jean to be part of the ensemble cast for the Little Theatre production of "Regina Revisited". Jean had written the script and songs for the play that was one of many which had been mounted to celebrate the centennial of the "Queen City" Regina. The production was a smash hit and was extended to 13 performances. People came and then came back again with friends and then came back again with the friends who wanted to bring their friends. By the end of the 13th performance some of the audience members knew the dialogue almost as well as the cast. Many of them began to say those lines out loud along with the performers, which was rather unsettling at times. Jean's words and music seemed to resonate with everyone. I am so grateful that she selected me to be a part of that amazing production. Not only did she allow me to be part of the cast, she also encouraged and complimented me, even though I was far less experienced than the others. The memories of that magical time which Jean had created have lifted me up many times during some of the darker days in my life. Thank you so much Jean for your time, your multiple talents, your endless enthusiasm and your kindness. The world is a better place because you were in it. God's speed as you are lovingly reunited with Bill, Mitch and your parents on the other side. Most sincerely, Heather Herrell aka Billy Morton's wife.

So sorry to hear the news. Jean was a lovely woman, bright and funny. It was always a pleasure to see her walk into the studio at CBC. After the recording, she always took the time to come to my side of the window and we would chat and laugh together. I was very fond of her. My deepest condoleances to her loved ones.

Jean was an inspiration to me and many others. Her gracious nature and joyful smile will be remembered. She made time for you. And her Christmas year end poems are CPRS Regina written with a colleague were legendary. While we never know what comes next, I hope Jean gets to hang with Mitch, whom I worked with as well and left this Earth too soon. --deep condolences, Myrna
