Obituary of Helen Husum

HELLEN (HJELT) HUSUM On August 30, 2016 after a lengthy illness and very peacefully, with family at her side, the Lord called Hellen Marie Husum, age 83, home. Predeceased by her husband, Adolph (1999) her parents Andreas (1981) and Alvida (Broberg) Hjelt (1975), sister and brother-in-law Sonja (1981) and Adam Peskleway (2007), parents-in-law Nels (1977) and Clara (Mossing) Husum (1972), brother-in-law Stan Husum (1990) and sister-in-law Marion (Jorstad) Husum (2013). Hellen leaves to mourn children Linda (Murray) Brookes of Regina, Carl (Susan) of Regina, Russell of Vancouver, nephews Robert (Melanie) Peskleway (children Cody, Clayton and Cayla), Garry (Vivian) Husum (children Charmaine, Candice (Jonathan Janik), Curtis (Cheryl), Crystal (Dana) Halvorsen and their mother Shirley Husum), Barry (Penny) Husum, and niece Cheryl (BarryTessier) Husum (son Troy (Sirinee) Husum), great great niece Sophia, and great great nephews Jax and Austin. She is also survived by close cousins and family in Norway and on her husband’s side in Canada. Hellen was born in Shaunavon SK January 31, 1933. She lived on a farm near Instow SK and later moved into Shaunavon to finish school and then moved to Regina in January 1953 where she met dad at Central Lutheran Church. They were married Nov. 6, 1953 and together raised their family and ran their farm northeast of Regina. Hellen’s family was the focal point of her life. Central Lutheran Church was important as well. Many dear friendships from her church span more than six decades. It was these friendships and mom’s family that allowed her to face her illness with courage, strength and serenity. She was never angry or bitter. * WHAT CANCER CANNOT DO Cancer is so limited It cannot cripple love It cannot shatter hope It cannot corrode faith It cannot destroy peace It cannot kill friendship It cannot suppress memories It cannot silence courage It cannot invade the soul It cannot steal eternal life It cannot conquer the spirit. Rest peacefully dear daughter, sister, wife, mother and aunt. Thank you to the nurses, staff, and Drs. Kilmurray, Johnson, Zarkovic, and Amjad at Pasqua Hospital palliative care who helped ease mom’s pain. Also a big thank you to everyone at William Booth Grace Hospice and long term care for their devotion and care. Special thanks to Major Sharon McDonough at William Booth for her support. Thank-you to all our friends, family, and Pastors Jeff and Amber for all their prayers, visits and calls which helped us cope during this very difficult time. The funeral service will be held at Central Lutheran Church 2625 12th Ave., Regina, SK on Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. Reverends Jeff Tank and Amber Hoffman officiating. Interment at Regina Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Hellen's memory to Luther College High School, Central Lutheran Church, Cancer Society, or Humane Society.
