OLGA B. FRIES (nee Hegglin)

January 13, 1926 – August 17, 2023

It is with sad hearts we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Olga Bertha Fries.  Mom passed away at the Santa Maria Nursing Home at the age of 97.

Left to mourn their loss are her son, Lorne and his family Lindsay (Nathan Benson) Fries and Alia, Stacey (Derrick) Mohr and Luka and Leyton; daughter, Fern (Lance) Dyer, and her family Jeffrey (Teresa) Dyer and Nixon, Pamela (Curtis Kidd) Dyer and Danika, Danae and Deneile; and Christina (Mat) Loucks and Scarlett and Kenzie; sister-in-law, Priscilla Fries; brother-in-law, Irwin Gellner; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Alfred “Al”; her parents; and siblings Clara (Bill), Joe (Helen), Alois (Mildred), Herman (Lenora) and Karl (Gertrude).

In her lifetime, mom was a teacher, operated a bulk service station in Markinch with dad, worked in the office at Federated coop, and spent 20 years farming with dad. She was a hard-working farmwife, who enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking for family; cinnamon buns, doughnuts and poppy seed rolls were some of her specialties. After retirement in 1979, mom and dad enjoyed summers at their cottage and winters in Arizona. They also had many trips in their motor home touring Canada and the United States.

As per Mom’s wishes, a Family Graveside Service, extended family is welcome, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at Regina Memorial Gardens, 4001 Victoria Avenue East, Regina, SK.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Olga’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
