Obituary of Johanna Kostiuk

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother Johanna Kostiuk on Tuesday, July 4, 2023 at the age of 94.

Johanna is lovingly remembered by her children, Joan (Terry) Cobler, Charlene (Bill) Makelki and Ronald (Karen) Kostiuk; grandchildren Penny (Rod) Syrnyk, Patrice (Mark) Easton, Cory (Holly) Makelki, Michael Kostiuk (April) and Jessica (Tom) Ewert; great-grandchildren, Tayler (Megan), Chelsey (Matt), Quinn (Erica), Garrett, Logan, Nyah and Vayda; great-great grandchildren Blake, Levi, Grey and Elwood; brother Karl (Rose) Strahm; sister-in-Law Gloria Krasiun; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Leon Kostiuk; son, Jerry; great-granddaughter, Laura; parents Fred and Julia; brother, John Strahm; and sister-in-law Elsie Strahm.

Johanna was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family. Johanna, as a farmer's wife and mother was a very busy, hard worker and spent the majority of her life farming near Southey with her husband Leon. In addition to her love of farm life and family, her "Love of Music" started in her early days as a child and continued throughout her life. She played the organ and accompanied her father (on the accordion) during all her childhood years, and continued with her love of music throughout her life. Although her short term memory failed her in the past year of her life, she had vivid memories of her father's "words of wisdom" which guided her life during her formative childhood years and which she frequently shared with her family. She would talk about her father's love of music and the joy of both of them playing together at the end of a busy day. This love of music continued on throughout her life to the end of her days and during her last year in which she entertained both staff and residents at Sunset Care home. It was both remarkable and magical!!

A Private Funeral Mass will be held for family and close friends.
