Obituary of Garry Russell Johnston
It is with heavy hearts the family announces the passing of Garry Russell Johnston on May 4, 2023 at the age of 74. After a three-year battle with cancer, he passed peacefully with his beloved family by his side.
He will be missed immensely by his loving wife Sandy of 51 years, his sons Larry (Kim), Tom (Richelle), and Greg (Raegan), his grandchildren Miranda, Jacob, Maxon, and Maysa. Predeceased by his father Lyle, he leaves to mourn his mother Georgina, brothers Terry and Glenn, sisters Jean and Melanie.
Garry was born June 2, 1948 in Ontario, but spent most of his life in the province of Saskatchewan. He had a long career as an ironworker for almost 50 years, and was well respected by his colleagues and peers. He developed many friendships and lifelong bonds with the members of local #771.
Garry enjoyed watching the boys playing hockey and soccer while they were growing up. He loved his recliner with remote in hand, talking about iron working with Greg, awaiting results of Tom and Larry's fishing tournaments, or the latest update on the grandchildren he was so proud of.
His greatest passion was his motorcycle, he spent many hours on the "Honda Goldwing", and the open road took him and Sandy on many adventures.
The last few years were tough on Garry and we take comfort knowing he is at peace.
"We love you dad, rest easy, and enjoy the ride".
At Garry's request, no funeral will be held, but a celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Allan Blair Cancer Centre, 4101 Dewdney Avenue, Regina, Saskatchewan
In Loving Memory
