BERG, Arthur Olaf

1940 - 2023

Arthur “Art” Olaf Berg, a beloved member of the Regina community, passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2023 at the age of 83. Though his passing was unexpected, his loved ones are comforted by the knowledge that he lived a full and accomplished life, filled with love, laughter, and adventure.

Art was predeceased by his parents Melvin and Nancy Berg  (née Seim); and brother Clifford. He is survived by his wife Carol (née Folstad); children Marlin (Laurie née Carlson), Tavia (David) Burke, and Lowell (Marcia née Grant); and grandchildren Jacob (Kira Stafford), Paige (Tyler Wacker), Kayleigh (Greg Murphy), Madison (Brayden Coghill), Jenna, Max, Cole (Brooklyn Fehr), and Levi.

Art was born in Kerrobert, SK in 1940 and grew up on the nearby family farm. He completed high school at the Lutheran Collegiate Bible Institute in Outlook, SK, and soon after began his career as an electrician in Swift Current, SK, quickly moving into leadership positions at Reda Pump. He stayed with Reda Pump through its parent companies for over 40 years and eventually Art became the Western Region Manager at Schlumberger, where he retired in 2006.

But Art’s work was only one aspect of his rich and vibrant life. He had a passion for the great outdoors, and loved gardening, golfing, curling, woodworking, boating, camping, fishing, hunting, quadding, and snowmobiling. He was always eager to take on new projects, including converting a school bus into a family camper and building a beautiful home on the lake at Glen Harbour village. It appeared that there wasn’t anything that Art could not fix, build, or do. Carol and Art loved to travel in their motorhome, and for many years they spent the winters in Arizona. Art traveled the world for work and for pleasure but was always happy to get back home to family and friends.

Family and faith were deeply important to Art.  Over the years, Carol and Art attended almost every family reunion for every branch of family, no matter where it was being held. He was active in his church, serving on council, choir, and instrumental in the formation of Advent Lutheran Church in Calgary, AB.

It was Art’s kind and charismatic spirit that truly endeared him to those around him. He had an infectious energy and enthusiasm for life that inspired everyone he met. He cared deeply for his family and friends, and was always quick to offer love, kindness, and guidance to those in need. Art maintained lifelong friendships and touched the lives of hundreds of people throughout his lifetime.

A Celebration of Art’s Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 190 Massey Road, Regina, SK.
