Obituary of Noreen Mary Ruhr

Please share a memory of Noreen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with heavy hearts, we mourn the passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Noreen Mary Ruhr. Noreen was born on April 30, 1932 and passed away peacefully on Monday, May 1, 2023 at the age of 91.

Noreen was the eldest of seven children and grew up on a farm near Killaly. In 1949, she married Joe Ruhr.  They farmed four miles north of Dubuc and were blessed with six children, Linda (Gary) Schachtel, Leona (Larry) Streifel, Wayne (Cathie) Ruhr, Bernie (Randy) Bozsik, Marlene (Ed) Bangle and Gail (Andy) Uleryk; 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Also left to cherish Noreen’s memory are her siblings Janet Ruhr, Kenneth Dean, Norman (Caroline) Dean, Shirley (George) Ruhr, Lucille (Steve) Kulcsar and Elaine (Arthur) Michalski; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Joseph; parents Albert and Minnie Dean; father and mother-in-law Frank and Julie Ruhr; sister-in-law Katherine Dean; and brother-in-law William Ruhr.

Noreen was a homemaker, fantastic cook, baker, seamstress and gardener. She also helped with the farm work.  She loved curling, camping, casino trips, playing bingo and cards with friends.

In 1984, they retired to Grayson. In 2007, their home was struck by lighting and burnt.  They then decided to move to the Benson Manor in Regina to be close to their family.  Mom enjoyed her time there, but in March 2020 she was placed at Extendicare Parkside where she lived until her passing.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church, 5020 7th Avenue, Regina, SK. Interment will be at a later date. For those not able to attend, a livestream may be viewed at stcecregina.com.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Extendicare Parkside as well as the staff at the Palliative Care unit at the Pasqua Hospital for the excellent care they gave Noreen.
