Obituary of Sophie Molly Schaffer

It is with sadness that the family of Sophie Schaffer announce her passing on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at the age of 101 years. Sophie is survived by her children Wynona (Earl), Bill (Della), Ron and Gary (Theresa); grandchildren John (Karin), Jody (Jack), Lisa (Bob), Grant, Jim (Cybil), Kadi (Aren), Mark (Amy), Thera (Matthew), Jarrod and Jenna; 18 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Erna Knapp; brother-in-law Bob Nixon; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Rudolph; daughter-in-law Ruth; and four siblings.

Sophie was raised on the Knapp family farm in the Hazelwood District. She married Rudolph in 1941, and farmed until 1980, when they moved to Southey, SK. In 2014, Sophie moved to Southey Pioneer Lodge.

A huge thank you to the lodge residents for their care and kindness while Mom lived there. In December 2022, Sophie moved to Cupar and District Nursing Home. A special thank you to the staff at the home in caring for Mom in her final days.

Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 4, 2023 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Southey, SK. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice in Sophie’s memory.
