Obituary of Agnes Frances Diebel
With heavy hearts we share the passing of our beloved Mom, sister, grandma, aunty and friend, Agnes Diebel. She passed gently in the night unexpectedly but peacefully, on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at St. Anne’s Nursing Home in Saskatoon at the age of 87 years old.
Agnes was born on July 16, 1935 to Fred and Carrie Schneider of Kronau, SK. She was the second oldest of seven children. Agnes attended Saar School in Kronau, until she was old enough to help run the family store and to help with her siblings. In 1952, she moved to Regina where she worked at the Army & Navy and then went to the Canadian Comptometer School of Business, where she got her diploma. Agnes worked in the Comptometer Department at the Sask. Wheat Pool for 10 years before getting married to Bud Diebel and moved to the farm in Chamberlain. They had three children – Michaelene, Carrie and Derek. In 1973, they sold the farm and moved back to Regina, and as a single mother of three, Agnes returned to work at the Sask. Wheat Pool until her retirement in 1991. After retirement, Agnes dedicated her spare time to care for her mother, and she became an active volunteer with Christ the King Parish. Agnes sang in the choir, worked in the church office folding bulletins, and knitted many blankets with the Knit and Chat Group for the needy. She was passionate about baseball and the Toronto Blue Jays. Agnes never missed watching and scoring a game. She loved to play cards with her siblings, and to spend time with her precious grandchildren. Agnes was known for her strength, faith, and dedication to her family. Her legacy will be remembered by all who knew her.
Agnes will be lovingly remembered by her three children Michaelene Diebel, Carrie (Darren) Wurmlinger, and Derek Diebel; cherished grandchildren Drew (Ashley), Matt (Ashley), Jami, and Brady Renwick, and Justin, Ryan and Kenton Wurmlinger; great-grandchildren Kaden and Hadley; siblings John (Marcy) Schneider, Mary (Aaron) Euteneier, Theresa (Gabe) Steinhubl, Frank (Gerrie) Schneider, Carol (Bob) Dolha and Joanne (Murray) Hanson; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Agnes was predeceased by her parents Fred and Carrie Schneider; former husband Bud Diebel; and all her Diebel in-laws.
A very special mention and most heartfelt thank you to the incredible and loving team at St. Ann’s Nursing Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a small donation to this special care home in Agnes’ honour.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m on Friday, April 21, 2023 at Christ the King R.C. Parish, 3239 Garnet Street, Regina, SK. For those unable to attend, a livestream may be viewed at https://youtube.com/live/vlxnicSOIvQ. A Private Interment will immediately follow the reception where Agnes will be laid to rest at Regina Memorial Gardens.
