Obituary of Una Doreen DeWitt
We are sad to announce the passing of Una DeWitt on the evening of March 8, 2023. Born in West Bromwich Midlands, UK on December 19, 1922, Una arrived in Tisdale, MB in September 1926. Life on the farm was a struggle for the daughter of a British coal merchant. The family moved to Flin Flon in the 1930s. As a teenager, Una went to Winnipeg and worked at Nestles. When war broke out, Una and a friend went to what is now Thunder Bay to work in a factory that was repurposed to manufacture Lancaster bombers. Their young ages prevented them from joining the air force. When war came to an end, Una returned to Flin Flon and worked at Preston Jewellers. There she met her future lifelong husband, James “Goldie” DeWitt, who entered the shop to visit his aunt who worked with Una. They married in 1947. Twenty years later they moved to Saskatoon. Una moved to Regina in 2018, shortly after the passing of “Goldie”. Una is survived by her son Ron; daughter Lynne; grandson Andrew; and great-grandchildren Logan and Liam. Una died peacefully at Dove House in Regina’s Cathedral Neighborhood. She will be sorely missed. A small Private Service will be held in the summer. Donations in Una’s honour can be made to the Sherbrooke Foundation Inc. (Sherbrooke Community Centre in Saskatoon).
In Loving Memory
Una DeWitt
