Obituary of Norman Christopher Endres

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden and peaceful passing of Norman “Norm” Christopher Endres on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at the age of 68 years

Norm was born on December 25, 1954 in Regina SK. He was predeceased by his parents Walter and Marie Endres’ sister Patricia “Pat” Cabane; and his close and cherished friend since childhood Glen Algera, or “Bert”, as Norm called him.

Norm leaves to cherish his memory, spouse of 40 years Lois Schoenthal; step-sons Cory (Tracy) Schoenthal, Ryan Schoenthal; grandchildren Brayden Schoenthal and Trance Schoenthal; brother Ramon (Audrey) Endres of Cambridge, ON; sisters Arlene (Stuart) Shortt of Lethbridge, AB and Lorraine Endres of Regina, SK; brother-in-law Alfred Cabane of Port Ewen, NY; as well as close long-time friends in which Norm considered part of his family, Cheryl (Jim) Maier of 53 years, and best bud Todd Popowich of 33 years; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A special thanks to Melody Mazur for her care and support.

Norm attended St. Joseph elementary school and graduated from Miller Comprehensive Highschool. He was a loyal, dedicated, hard worker. Norm started at a young age delivering newspapers for the Leader Post, as well as doing odd jobs for the Tartan Curling Club while working at the nearby gas station. As an adult Norm worked in construction for various companies for a few years, before landing his career of 24 years as a maintenance engineer for William Booth Special Care Home until his retirement in 2019. He will be fondly remembered by his co-workers especially the ones that liked to make friendly bets on sports games with Norm.

Norm had a heart of gold, a contagious smile and an mystical grin that would leave you wondering what he was thinking. He was a powerful strong person yet had a sensitive nature and not afraid to show his emotions by shedding a few tears in front of anyone.

Norm was an avid sports fan of the Detroit Red Wings. With scissors in his hands, Norm cut out everything and anything associated with this team starting in 1978 until present and pasted them in scrapbooks. His story together with his massive collection of scrapbooks and memorabilia drew the attention of writer David Morris, of the Regina Sunday Sun, who published a feature story of Norm on December 13, 1998. His other favorite teams were the Green Bay Packers, St. Louis Cardinals and, naturally, The Saskatchewan Roughriders. No matter what team or who’s favorite team were playing, you would find Norm and his bud Todd sitting in front of the TV glued to the screen and cheering for their teams or each other’s because that’s what buds do!

A Private Graveside Memorial for family and friends will be held at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery, where Norm will be laid to rest in the family plot. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Operation Smile, 204 - 375 University Avenue, Toronto, ON M5G 2J5, operationsmile.ca, in memory of Norm.

Norm you will be forever missed but never forgotten!!!
