Obituary of Don Dobson

Please share a memory of Don to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

On Wednesday, September 7, 2022, Don passed away in his 88th year. Don is survived by his four children and their partners, Blaine Dobson (Sheila), Melody Jameson (Tom),  Terry Dobson (Joël) and Harmony Szukaylo (Ken); nine grandchildren, Kevin Jameson (Amanda), Kaelynne Reid (Nathan), Benjamin, Isaac, and Elisabeth Dobson, Kaylee and Kyle Szukaylo, Zachary and Nolan Dobson; and his two great-grandchildren Jeremy and Emma Reid.  He was predeceased by his wife Evelyn Dobson (April 23, 2022); parents Gordon and Hattie; and brothers Lorne and Roy.

Don was born in a farmhouse in the Disley area in 1934.  He left home at 14 and started working on the nearby Seidler family farm. His friendship with the Seidlers was strong until the end.  Don moved into Regina at the age of 17 which was the start of a long and prosperous career in the automotive industry, which also led to numerous Canadian and world-wide trips. He ended his working career as a very well liked and respected employee of the Taylor Automotive Group with whom he spent over 30 years.

Our Dad was so easy going and quickly befriended almost anyone he met.  His patience, love and forgiveness as a Dad and Grandpa were beyond measure.  Dad was always the one we could trust to be there when it really mattered. The biggest compliment we ever received was being told, “You are just like your father!”

Dad had a lifelong love affair with sports, as a player, coach, administrator and fan.  Baseball was his first love, as evidenced by playing competitively for 7 decades and attending many Blue Jays and Tigers games. He loved curling from whether it was playing in the City Championships to watching the sport evolve over the years. Many birthdays, anniversaries and Roughrider games were celebrated or watched together with his family and friends where he was always one of the main attractions. We love you Dad, Grandpa and will miss you immensely.
