1948 - 2022

Joan Nelson (nee Cantalope) passed away peacefully with loving family by her side on Tuesday, August 16, 2022 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Joan grew up on the farm by Edenwold before moving to Regina. She will be sadly missed by sons Stephen (Nancy) and Michael (Michaela); grandsons Jared and Colton; sister Annette (Alan); sister-in-law Lois and family; as well as many cousins and close friends. Joan was predeceased by her parents Howard and Olga (Koch) Cantalope; and brother Bruce.

Joan lived her life with determination and drive. Her greatest joys came from being a mother and grandmother and enjoying time with friends. Joan enjoyed ‘do it herself’ projects, and took great pride in her beautiful flowers, garden and Christmas light decorating. She cherished volunteering with the Regina Horticultural Society and Wascana Dog Obedience Club freely sharing her vast knowledge and experience.

Joan retired from Workers Compensation in 2010 where she enjoyed working with her colleagues and clients for 25 years.

Family and friends knew Joan’s strength of character, and that “she did it all in her way”! No doubt Joan is busily cleaning up the flower beds with her beloved pets, who were waiting for her on “Rainbow Bridge”, at her side.

Joan’s family would like to thank her closest friends for all their love and support, Dr. Iqbal and Dorianne, and her Palliative Care at-home team, whose support allowed her to stay home during her journey. Thank you to Grace Hospice for their compassionate care during her brief stay.

The family invites all to attend Regina Memorial Gardens for a Graveside Service on Thursday, August 25, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with a luncheon to follow at the Serbian Club, 2775 Avonhurst Drive, Regina, SK.
