Obituary of Marlene Joyce Block
Marlene Joyce Block
“Absent from the body, present with the Lord”
2 Corinthians 5:8
Despite this fact, we will miss Marlene’s great sense of humor, compassion for others and love for her family. Marlene passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at the age of 85. She will be greatly missed by Benjamin, her husband, companion, recent caregiver, best friend and recipient of her many one-liners for 66 years; children, Bob (Janette) Block; Rhonda Bobst (Doug Lett); Bob and Janette’s children: Alicia (Paul) Schaefer and their children Knox and Violet; Alexander (Nicole) Block and their daughter Oakley; and Janelle Block; sisters-in-law Irma Stevenson and Vivian Block; special nephew Chris Atkinson; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Marlene was predeceased by her parents Chris and Irene Ast; sisters Joan (Harry) Atkinson, Doreen (George) Hoelscher; son-in-law David Bobst, as well as many Block in-laws. Marlene was born and raised in Regina, where she attended Victoria School then Balfour Tech Collegiate. Upon graduation, she worked at Simpsons Mail Order where she met Ben and they married in 1955 at Trinity Lutheran Church. While maintaining the house and raising kids, Marlene also taught Sunday School at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and worked for the Provincial Government for many years. At Marlene’s request a funeral service will not be held. Heartfelt thanks to the professional and caring palliative care team at the Pasqua Hospital who ensured Marlene’s passing was peaceful. A private interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please perform an act of kindness and compassion, or provide a donation to Kedleston Gospel Camp, c/o 808 Assiniboine Ave. E., Regina, SK S4V 0K6, in her memory.
In Loving Memory
