Obituary of Lucie Klempner

Please share a memory of Lucie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It with great sadness the family of Lucie Klempner announces her passing Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at the age of 92.

Lucie Klempner was born on May 18, 1930 in Leipe, a small village in Poland. She was born to Hermann and Olga Kuhnke (nee Ott). Her family fled Poland for Germany in 1945 and found their way to Rettmer, a small village outside of Luneburg, Germany.

Lucie worked in a bakery in Rettmer and met her husband, Alfred. They were married on Saturday, July 28, 1951. The following Tuesday they immigrated to Canada and settled in Regina.

Lucie had a few jobs before starting her career as a sausage maker, briefly, at Intercontinental Packers and then retired from Fuhrmans Meats in 1990 after a very distinguished 25-year career.

Alfred and Lucie raised three children: Erwin, Harold and Irene. They loved to travel every summer and there were family holidays across Canada and the US to visit family and friends. Alfred and Lucie returned many times to Germany to visit and vacation. Family was very important to Lucie; nothing delighted her more than when she could visit with any of her 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

The Klempner house was like the Welcome Wagon in the earlier years in Canada as many young men (six) boarded at the house to start a new life in Canada. Lucie, along with Alfred, kept the welcoming tradition going as the family grew, the house became the hub for family gatherings at Christmas and back yard BBQ’s to mention a few.

Mom along with her full-time job was a great home maker and passed on many fantastic traditional dishes that the family cherishes, enjoys and will remember her with.

In retirement, Lucie discovered Hawaii and spent many years wintering in Hawaii with Alfred, enjoying the sun and beach. There, they met many new friends through their time at the beach. Mom also had more time to knit in her retirement to make sweaters of all kinds, mittens and blankets for the family.

Lucie was predeceased by her loving husband Alfred; and sisters Lidia Lehmke and Martha Shulz. Mom is survived by her sons Erwin (Dianne) and Harold (Lori); daughter Irene; and brother Gus Kuhnke; and the loves of her life the Grandchildren Erin, Chris, Heather, Aimee, Charmaine, Chelsea, Sandi, Curtis, Leanne and Calvin; and great-grandchildren Jaydyn, Payten, Isaac, Gavin, Tryson, Colbie, Logan, Marcus, Coltyn, Owen, Cyrus, Ayla, Ciara, Joel, Anna, Samantha, Olumide, Oluwaseyi.

Mom was in and out of hospital for the last three months and the family would like to extend our gratitude for the tremendous care given to her from the Regina General ER and Unit 3E, Wascana Rehab Unit 3.2, Dr. Elwood, her colleagues and the staff at the Regina General Hemodialysis Unit. Special thanks to Lou and Caroline in Hemo for your care during Mom’s last hours!

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at Grace Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, which will be graciously declined, family and friends are asked to consider a donation to Grace Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice.
