Obituary of Raymond Paul Stonechild

On Wednesday, December 1, 2021, Raymond Paul Stonechild, passed away peacefully with family by his side at the age of 43.

Raymond was born on January 27, 1978 in Regina, SK to Raymond Stewart Stonechild and Theresa (George) Quewezance (nee McNabb). Raymond was a gifted athlete excelling in judo as a child and ice hockey when he was a teenager, having played for Treaty 4. He found love early in life after meeting Carmen Yuzicapi and having two children, Colton Reigh Keepness-Stonechild and Somara Autumn Yuzicapi whom he loved deeply.

Raymond "Little or Baby Ray" was always eager to be helpful without ever needing to be asked. It was important for him to earn his own way, without expecting handouts. His younger cousins, Stephanie and Sheri, nicknamed him their "Tomcat" because he liked to roam at night and come home in the morning and they will testify that he made the best Kraft Dinner "KD". He loved his family and friends with his great big heart and was always quick to send out a smile upon meeting. His loyalty to them made him very protective, always wanting to make sure they were safe. Even though he did not always make the best decisions in life, his advice was always to do the right thing. He was a gifted poet, often writing verse in a hip hop style. He will be fondly remembered for being funny, respectful and a gentle soul with a happy go lucky attitude.

Raymond was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Walter Frederick Stonechild Sr. and Beatrice Lavallee; uncle Walter Jr.; aunts Karen, Annette and Yvette Kelly. He is survived by his father Raymond and mother Theresa; children, Colton and Somara; aunties Kara and Nina (Jonathon); uncles Paul (Dodi) and Woodrow "Woody"; close cousins growing up Gabriel (Christina), Nathaniel (Juanita), Stephanie, Sheri, Amanda and Margaret; and many other "aunties and uncles", nieces, nephews and cousins who loved him very much.

A Wake will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at Piapot Band Hall with a Traditional Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 8, 2021 from the same location.
