Obituary of Ellis Alexander Karst

Please share a memory of Ellis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

On Friday, October 8, 2021, Ellis passed away peacefully in his home at the age of 97 years. Ellis was born November 23, 1923 to Alexander and Emma Karst in the Semans area. He took over the family farm upon the early death of his father. He married Martha Schmidt from the Duval area June 7, 1947. They raised four daughters on the farm. We remember Dad being involved in the community with hockey, curling, the Co-op board, the Wheat Pool, and social responsibility. Ellis and Martha retired to a condo in Regina in 1990. They continued enjoying many winters in Mesa, Arizona, where they had a large circle of friends, and a place we could all visit. After our mother’s passing, Dad continued to be interested in most sports (especially the Blue Jays), political happenings in our world, playing cards, and visiting family. Dad was tolerant and kind in all of his opinions. He wanted us to treat others and ourselves with compassion and dignity. We thank Dad for embracing the goodness of life.  Dad was predeceased by his wife Martha; his parents; and two brothers, Eddie and Willie. Dad left us all enriched - four daughters:  Valeria (Wilf) Chiasson, Delores (John) Coutts, Jacalyn (Garry) Phillips and Wanda (Greg) van Ginkel; grandchildren: Anthony, Tina (Bob), Lee (Mark), Cam (Julie), Brandy (Scott), Andrew (Merin), Andrea (Brad), Sam (Alyx); great-grandchildren: Emma (Stephen), Jack, Maggie, Connor, Piper, Riley, Ali, Zoey, Baya, Kai, Avery, Sadie, Hazel. He also leaves behind sister Esther McIntosh; and sisters-in-law Sally Karst, Marj Karst, Alice Hameluck and Ellen Schmidt; and brother-in-law Wallace Schmidt; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. It was Dad’s wish to not have a funeral. We celebrate his life now and going forward.
