Obituary of Ernest James Pool Moffat
With love, memories and sadness we announce the passing of Ernest James Moffat. Ernie passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 15, 2021 at the age of 82. He was born in Lochmaben, Scotland. Ernie attended Lochmaben Public School; Lockerbie Academy & Dumfries Academy – he completed a six year apprenticeship in Carpentry and Store Fitting, as well as College for Technical Drawing.
Ernie married the love of his life in 1963, and with their daughter Debbie moved to Canada in 1987.
Ernie worked hard all of his life. He had his own Construction Company in England; he went to the Falkland Islands to rebuild after their undeclared war in 1982. He continued in construction when he moved his family to Canada; hotel maintenance and renovation became his specialty – moving his family 9 times in 21 years in 3 Provinces. He was proud of the renovation at the Regina Inn, including the construction of Stage West Dinner Theatre, and adjoining Government offices. Numerous bank renovations; and built Starbucks Coffee shops in Toronto, Ottawa and Calgary.
Ernie was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Jean; brother Derek; and sister Rena. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 58 years, Eunice; daughter Debbie (Amcy); adored grandson Michael; and extended family and close friends in Scotland and England. Ernie’s eyes lit up when he was around his family. He and Eunice spent hours watching Michael’s sports – Ernie was always the loudest supporter of anything that he did. Family was the center of Ernie’s universe – he would do anything for family and friends; nothing was too much trouble. Ernie loved to build, create, renovate, paint and spent hours in his garden. Dad’s gentle nature, quick-witted sense of humor and one liners, hearty laugh, making and sharing homemade wine – will be missed by all that knew him.
We would like to thank friends, family and caregivers over the last few months for their love and support.
A family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Regina Humane Society or Saskatchewan Cancer Agency in Ernie’s memory.
