Obituary of Doreen Terrolynn Bernice Lundell
A month and a half before her 83rd birthday, on Sunday, June 27, 2021, with family at her side, Doreen Terrolynn Bernice Lundell (nee Hilsen) went home peacefully to be with her Lord.
Doreen was born on a farm near Earl Grey, SK on August 10, 1938. After completing high school at Bryn Mawr, she attended teacher’s college in Moose Jaw, SK. She began her career teaching grades 1-8 in a one-room schoolhouse. She continued teaching in the Southey and Balgonie areas for five years. Doreen married her sweetheart, Arthur Lundell, of Strasbourg, SK on July 18, 1964. They farmed in the Strasbourg area briefly before moving to Winnipeg, MB in 1966, where they spent 32 years and raised their family. They returned to Saskatchewan in 1998 to retire and care for aging parents.
Doreen was predeceased by her parents Clifford and Myrtle Hilsen; brother Arlen Hilsen; sister Iva Skibitzky and brother-in-law Milton McCaslin. She will be deeply missed by her beloved husband Arthur; children Lenise (Michael) Rowe, Dan (Lynn) Lundell, Michael Paul Lundell, Juanita (Jeremy) Hiebert; grandchildren Miranda, Rebecca, Katherine, Meghan, Emma, Seth (Jasper), Levi, Heidi, Raelynn, Joshua (Natalie), sisters Carol McCaslin, Sharon (Senno) Zuch; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Doreen’s life touched many lives, always graciously welcoming family and friends into her home with coffee and dessert, or a warm meal and a bed. She was a wonderful hostess who enjoyed caring for, and listening to others. Children especially held a special place in her heart and were drawn easily to her. She was a talented gardener, seamstress, cook and baker, often sharing these gifts with others. She will be deeply missed.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of the 5A Neurosciences Unit of the Regina General Hospital for their compassion and care.
A family interment will be held at a later date, as well as an informal memorial service for family and friends in which to honor Doreen’s life.
