Obituary of Ivan Maticka
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Ivan Maticka, with his family by his side, on Sunday, May 16, 2021 after a battle with Parkinsons and Dementia. Ivan was predeceased by his parents, Ferdinand and Maria; and brother Stefan. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Liz (nee Dizy) of almost 58 years; two daughters Lichelle (Ross) Wood and Lori Luster; seven granchildren, Natalie (Leo), Tanner (Sam), Rebecca (Noah), Katie, Haley, Alison and Samantha. He is also survived by his family in Europe and Canada; brothers Walter, Freddie and Robert; sister Helga; sister-in-law Annie; as well as Liz’s brothers, sisters and spouses; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Ivan was born on October 12, 1934 in Yugoslavia and immigrated to Canada at the young age of 19. He worked as a farm hand near Weyburn. Ivan enjoyed working with animals and fixing machinery. In 1956, he moved to Regina and began his career as a baker. After 40 years, Ivan retired and he and Liz enjoyed several trips together. Ivan's knack for being a "handyman" was displayed his whole life. He was always building and fixing things. He built his own cottage which his family enjoyed for 36 years. Family was very important to him, especially his grandchildren who were the love of his life. He was a very quiet man and will be remembered for his calm and loving ways. In lieu of flowers, a donation in his name may be made to the Marian Centre or to a charity of your choice. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a Private Funeral Mass will be held for invited guests only at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 20, 2021. For those not able to physically attend a livestream may be viewed at https://youtu.be/rEkDqflH8rk.
