Obituary of George Richard Stroeder

Please share a memory of George to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of George R. Stroeder on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at the age of 85. The youngest son of 11 children, George was predeceased by his parents, Lawrence and Clara, and eight brothers and sisters: Victor, Edward, Bernard, Peter, Joe, Mary Clare, Sr. Magdalene (Annie) and Imelda.

George is survived by his life partner Inez Yoner and four children from his first marriage: Robert, Donna (Patrick) Hordyski, Rod (Darla), Jill and granddaughter Sarah, as well as his two sisters Mary (Jim) Lavery and Sally (Richard) Muench. He is also survived by his extended family with Inez’s children; Vincent (Carol), Tammy, Cordell (Alice); five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

George was born in Lake Lenore, Saskatchewan and lived in Humboldt, Prince Albert and Waskesiu before settling in Regina. In Regina, while working at Costco, is where he met Inez and they have enjoyed the past 20 years together. In 2020, George and Inez became part of the Queen Victoria Gardens Estate community where they made many new friends.  George had a natural wit that charmed everyone who met him, was a naturally friendly fellow and was someone who always had a smile to share.

George was a great sportsman. From a young age he loved to play baseball with his brothers; he exceled at golf and curling and enjoyed cheering for his favourite hockey and football teams - the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Saskatchewan Roughriders. George was great at cooking and barbequing, and his mastery at meat cutting drew people from all over for his famous sausages and steaks.
