Obituary of Sonia Josephine Kaminski

Please share a memory of Sonia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with extreme sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of Sonia Kaminski at the age of 81: beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and special friend.  She passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 18, 2020, at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina, SK.

She was born and raised in Saskatoon, SK until the age of five when she was graciously adopted by Peter and Dorothea Mayer.

Sonia married Oswald Kaminski on October 10, 1955 in Lipton, SK where they farmed north of town & raised their five children together. There was always a lot of chores to do on the farm; milking cows, gathering eggs, feeding pigs, working in the fields, gardening, etc. and mom was no stranger to any of it.  If you couldn’t find her outside, the smell of fresh baked goods and a hot coffee always welcomed you in.

Their loving home was always open to friends and neighbors creating many lasting memories, sometimes ending in a card game or two.  Mom moved to Lipton a short while after dad passed away, where she resided for many years.  She later moved to Regina in the summer of 2018 where she created new friendships and discovered new freedoms.

Mom was a wonderfully devoted mother to her five children: Alan Kaminski, Vernon Kaminski, Lenore (Dale) Armstrong, Suzette (Kevin) Miller and Carla (John) Garcia. She was a loving grandmother to eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren: Cody Kaminski (Emerson), Riley Kaminski/Catrina Elliott (Tianna Marie, Jayce), Levi/Stacey Kaminski (Camryn, Everleigh, Pryor, Isley), Kylie Degelman (Conner, Kaydence, Paige), Lee/Delia Degelman, (Dawson, Sierra), Jonathan Degelman, Ashley/Troy Betcher, and Dylan Miller.

Sonia was predeceased by her husband Oswald Kaminski; sons Vernon Kaminski and Alan Kaminski; parents Peter and Dorothea Mayer; mother-in-law Caroline Kaminski; father-in-law August Kaminski; brothers-in-law Albert Kaminski, Norman Kaminski and sisters-in-law Agnes Hepting and Alma Warner and extended family.

Memories will be treasured by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brother, Edgar Mayer, sister-in-law Minnie Kaminski, numerous relatives, and close friends.

Mom will be remembered for her special gifts of gardening, cooking, sewing, crafts, her passion of flowers & her zest for life.  We will all miss her antics, especially when playing cards.  Our time spent with her will always be treasured and considered a gift.

A private celebration of Sonia’s life will be held at a later date, following COVID protocols.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to one of Mom’s favorite charities, Operation Smile (https://operationsmile.ca/), in her memory.
