Obituary of Ruth Irene Rohrer

Please share a memory of Ruth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of their auntie and friend, Ruth Rohrer (nee Heinitz) of Regina at the age of 84.

Ruth was born in Strasbourg to Fred and Annie Heinitz.  She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran church in Strasbourg.  She received her education at Beulah Public School east of town and then attended William Derby High School.   After grade 12, she moved to Regina and worked at the Co-op Creamery. Shortly afterwards she was offered employment at Sears Canada and retired there 35 years later. Retirement was short-lived and Ruth went back to work as a tour hostess for Fehr-way Tour Company with Last Mountain Bus Lines.  She travelled all throughout Canada and the US and enjoyed taking seniors on gambling trips and church trips.  Six years later she found that she needed to be closer to home for health reasons and found employment as a cleaning lady for Mount Olive Lutheran Church.  Her eight years there she made many good friends until she retired for good at the age of 72.

Her love for animals was never ending and for 16 years, Ruth cherished her Samoyed, Skip.  She became a volunteer for the Regina Humane Society as well as the Ovarian Cancer Society.

Ruth was loved by her family and her many friends. She had several lifelong friendships that she held dear to her heart and she is survived by them and her many nieces and nephews as well as sister-in-law Dorothy Heinitz.

She was predeceased by her brothers, Ron and Bill Heinitz Sr, and sister Kay Hooper, as well as her nephew Ray Heinitz.

Ruth’s last years were spent at Parkside Extendicare. A private service will be held for family and friends at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined.  Those so wishing may donate in Ruth’s memory to St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3510 Queen Street, Regina, SK S4S 2G2.
