Obituary of Terrence Anthony Leier

Please share a memory of Terrence to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with deep sadness, the family of Terrence Anthony Leier announce his unexpected death on the morning of November 11, 2020. Terry was born in Wilkie, SK in 1942, the first son of Anthony and Helen Leier. He was educated at St Peter's College, Munster and the University of Saskatchewan College of Law. It was during his education at the U of S where he met and married his wife, Susan (nee Noyes). He began his career as a Naval Lieutenant for the Royal Canadian Navy Reserve, a role that he relished, and which took him all over the world. Terry and Susan settled in Regina, where he practiced law specializing in business and government relations, and held a variety of positions, including City of Regina Solicitor’s Office, overseeing many of the city’s significant growth and development initiatives for more than a decade, Senior Vice-President and General Counsel at the Crown Management Board of Saskatchewan, before finally opening his own private practice. Terry had a great passion for the law, and helping others, continuing his legal career until his passing, and last held the post of Legal Advisor and Governance Consultant for Hanfood Group Holding Corporation. Terry was awarded the Queen's Counsel designation in 1993, for his legal service. In 2012, Terry was appointed to the Board of Directors of CBC/Radio-Canada and served a five-year term.

Terry was an exceptionally intelligent and humane man. He never refused to assist anyone who asked for help, and the number of calls and visits he fielded from friends, family and colleagues for guidance was countless. He never hesitated to attempt any project that interested him, regardless of magnitude or complexity. His friendships were numerous and offered without expectation, exception, or bias. He had many passions including outdoor life, classical music, and science fiction, but none exceeded his love of people.

Terry had many great achievements in his life, but by far the achievement he was most proud of was his family. Terry delighted in his family, and always had proud and loving words to say about his children and grandchildren.  Terry was a loving husband, father, uncle, and grandfather. He passed in the family home he and Susan built themselves. He is survived by his wife of 54 years Susan, sister Melanie, children Brendan (Amanda), Allison (Jay), Stephanie (Troy), Christopher (Michelle), grandchildren Francis, Jake, Jack, Sam, and Anthony, as well as many nieces and nephews.  He will be greatly missed.

A private family service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 17, 2020, a livestream can be viewed at https://youtu.be/jddo7YCOkto. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, www.heartandstroke.ca.
