Obituary of Leta Cecile Reiss

Please share a memory of Leta to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Leta Cecille Reiss completed her life’s journey on October 2, 2020, at the age of 70.  She was a strong woman and she passed peacefully surrounded by family.

Born on August 23, 1950, in Green Lake, SK with her twin sister, Lela. She was raised by her parents living from the land, hunting, fishing, trapping, and gathering berries and hazelnuts in the summer and listening to her mother teach about ancestral legends during the winter.

Leta served others with her loving strength and compassion through her work with seniors, youth and women.  A large portion of her work involved supporting our Indigenous People.  She loved speaking her Michif language and sharing it with those who had a desire to learn. She regularly participated in Indigenous community events and gatherings with her husband and was honoured to share invocations at Metis Nation of Saskatchewan events.

She was predeceased by her parents Albert and Helen Aubichon; brothers Ernest (Velma), Martin (Valerie) and Paul Aubichon; and sisters Theresa Zehner (Marvin), Emilia Laliberte (Johnny), Stella Aubichon and Mary (Dan) Ross.

She is survived by her loving husband, Daniel Reiss; son Albert, his children Blake (Tracey), Keaghan and Kip; son Dallas (Kelsie) their child Kegan; son Jorden Zwozdesky and their mom, Gloria Highway; son Orest (Chelsea); and son Peter Zwozdesky (Megan) their child Isaiah; stepchildren Renee Andrews (Meisha (Joel), their child Katherine; and Cole (Paige) their child Reid) and Kevin Reiss (Sara).  In addition, Leta leaves behind her twin sister Lela “Rita” (Norman) Arnold and other siblings Dora (Freddy) Morin, Eugene (Barbara) Aubichon, Maurice (Valerie) Aubichon, Gordon (Doris) Aubichon, Gregory Aubichon (nephew) and Marie Poloz (niece)  as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. Heartfelt thanks to those who cared for my mom and consistently helped her in life.  Know that you have a special place in her heart and ours.
