Obituary of Richard Lloyd Jones

Please share a memory of Richard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

With deepest sorrow we announce Lloyd’s passing on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at the age of 95.

Lloyd was predeceased by his wife June (nee: Scott); infant son Richard; son Randy; grandson Colin; parents David and Alma;  sisters Audrey, Phyllis and Gwen; brothers Mervin, Eldon and Ken; sisters in law Elaine and Phyl; brothers in law Ray Cameron and Elmer Williamson. He is survived by his children Bill (Liz), Wendy (Donah), Bev (Vern) and Cathy; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Lloyd was a proud member of the PPCLI since 1942. He had a long and varied career, from a grain buyer for the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, to plumbing and heating. He was an organizer and official for Indian Head minor baseball; and a coordinator of the Indian Head branch of the militia and Air Cadets. Lloyd was also an active member in the Indian Head Senior hockey and baseball leagues. Resident of Regina since 1973, he retired from U DO IT Plumbing and Heating. Lloyd became a member and eventually the President of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch number 1; member and past President of The Royal United Services Institute and PPCLI Association; Chairman and Chief Laborer of the Regina Poppy Campaign; Canadian Senior Games board member; CNIB board member; WWI and WWII Memorial Committee; a member of the Lakeview Community Association; Preservation of Old Music Society; and the Welsh society and choir.

Lloyd was a long-time member of Norman Kennedy Presbyterian Church and devoted many hours of his life to a wide variety of organizations and causes. Doing so with no expectation of recognition or awards. Over the past years of his life as his health permitted, he maintained his involvement with many organizations and causes. A deserving recipient of the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal and the Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation, Lloyd was a perfect example of a true Saskatchewan volunteer and made a difference to many people.

As a sign of the times there will be no service. A private family service will be held at a later date. Donations in Lloyd's name can be made directly to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch number 1, Regina, Saskatchewan. This year remember Lloyd when purchasing a poppy.
