Obituary of Leonard Mackenzie Hanlon

Please share a memory of Leonard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with great sadness that we announce Len’s passing on August 10, 2020 after a battle with cancer. Predeceased by his parents Daniel and Alice; brothers Joseph, Dennis and Gerald; and grandson Travis. He is survived by sons Darryl (Debbie) and Jamie (Lyuba); daughter Sabrina (Bob) Kusek; brothers Don and Jack (Marjorie); sisters Vera (Jim) Billy and Bev Gailbraith; former wife Alice; special friend Jeannette and her daughter Laura; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Len was born in the Dysart area on August 5, 1940. He left formal education early and began working his teens, spending his early days in the oil patch and as a truck driver for companies such as Kleysen and Tri-Mac. He spent most of his life as a pipeliner and was a proud member of both the Teamsters and the International Union of Operating Engineers. He worked on lines across Canada and on the famed Trans-Alaska Pipeline System in the mid-70’s. While he spent much of his time hauling equipment, he could operate every piece of machinery on a line and held tickets as a crane operator. He worked as an oil executive for a brief time during the late 70’s and had his own consulting firm during the 80’s before returning to the field in the late 80’s, eventually rising to supervisory positions before his retirement. Len enjoyed a variety of pursuits during his lifetime including curling, travelling, hunting, boating and golfing. His final years were spent doting on his dogs, Boo-Boo and Toby. The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses of units 4D and 3B at the Pasqua Hospital for taking care of Len in his final days.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. In lieu of flowers donations in Len’s memory may be made to the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency or the Canadian Cancer Society.
