Obituary of Robert Alexander Oliver

Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Robert Alexander Oliver (Bob) peacefully passed away August 10, 2020 at age 83. Predeceased by his father Theodore; mother Rosalie; brother David; and great granddaughter Lily Rae. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 38 years Wilma; children Colleen (Rick) Holmes, Mark Oliver, Darrin Oliver (Sherry), Lisa (Stew) Kerslake; 14 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and brother Garry (Marge) Oliver and family.

Bob was born during the tough times of the dirty thirties. As a young man he took on odd jobs to help the family, from shoveling coal to pedaling a delivery bike for Miner’s Meats. He worked at McGavin’s Bakery and took a special liking to the horses there. Bob worked several jobs at the bakery during after school hours.

Bob apprenticed as a plumber and worked for Acme Plumbing and Heating for 5 years. He also drove taxi and had many fond memories of the people he encountered.

Bob got his first motorcycle at age 16 and it was a life-long passion that he talked about well into his senior years. He was very mechanically inclined and owned a car before he even had a drivers license.

In October 1959, Bob joined the Regina Fire Department, where he was one of the first groups to work on the Fire Department Emergency Truck. Bob retired as Captain after 32 years of service in 1991.

In 1988, Bob and Wilma bought 2 lots at Sorenson Beach where he built by hand a beautiful retirement home. This was a labour of love and his pride and joy, he and Wilma spent many happy years at the lake.

Bob loved his family very much, whether it was time spent at the rink, watching the grandchildren’s sports, or something as simple as a family meal together.

Bob was a very special soul who will be truly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him. His absence will be felt by family and friends for a long time to come.

A family service has been held. Those wishing to honour Bob’s life may make a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society in Bob’s memory.
