Obituary of Doris Evelyn Leier (nee: Wagner)
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our dear Oma, Doris (Dodie) Leier. Oma peacefully passed away on May 21, 2020 with family by her side.
She was predeceased by her husband, Martin Leier; mom and dad, Mildred and Reinhold Wagner; sister, Lorraine Dundas; and sister-in-law, Patricia Wagner.
Dodie is survived by her son, Terry Leier; daughter, Marcia (Jim) Watson; her grandchildren, who were her pride and joy, Jesse (Courtney) Schellenberg, Melissa (Dustin) Sykes; great grandchildren Dominic Graham and Laikyn Sykes; brothers Gilbert (Lois) Wagner and Ron Wagner; close friend Marcella Blais; and many nieces and nephews.
Oma had a passion for life; finding the beauty in everything and everyone. Gardening was a loving hobby of hers and when she wasn’t tending to her own, you could find her happily helping her neighbours with or without their permission. Oma loved her cats and it wasn’t uncommon to find an extra visitor in her home.
Oma was also a passionate advocate for persons with disabilities. She was a pioneer in creating many programs to support them, worked tirelessly to advance legislation for their rights, was a proud member of multiple committees and served many years as the President of the Saskatchewan Association for People with Disabilities.
She passed just 12 days shy of her next birthday. A small celebration of life will be held on this day, June 6th for family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cosmopolitan Learning Centre.
Oma was a strong, determined and fiercely independent woman. She lived for her family and will be missed every day.
In Loving Memory
Doris Leier (nee: Wagner)
