Obituary of Elizabeth Farquhar

Please share a memory of Elizabeth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

On April 24, 2020 Beth (Elizabeth) Farquhar lost her battle with the disease that she would not allow to define her final days. She was predeceased by her parents, mother and father-in-law, three brothers, three sisters and a beloved grandson.

Left to mourn her passing are: her best friend and husband; Morris children, Deena (Blair Benedik) along with their children of Regina, Kerry (Trish) along with their children of Prince George, Jonathan (Crystal) along with their children of Prince George, Elisa (Jeff Mertick) along with their children of Regina and a spiritually adopted son, Blair, in Calgary. She also leaves to mourn step grandson, Branden (Chelsea) and their family; one brother, Steve; three sisters, Eva, Anne and Sylvia; as well as numerous brothers and sisters in law, nieces, nephews and dear friends.

She was born in the fall of 1942 on the homestead at Clarkleigh, MB, the ninth of eleven children. Her life changed when her oldest brother shared the things that he had learned during his Bible study with Jehovah’s Witnesses. She was baptized in March 1955. She met Morris Farquhar in September 1962 and married him August 24, 1963 and together they shared their faith with their children, family and neighbors. They lived in three provinces, making lifelong friends along the way. Those who knew her best always remark about her incredible sense of humor, storytelling and wit. Even though she had poor eyesight and was hearing impaired, her life as a homemaker and a mother to her four children was also a focus of her life. As a skilled seamstress, she enjoyed attention to details and made both of her daughters’ beautiful wedding gowns. She truly excelled as a grandmother; she played, baked, hiked, imagined, painted and crafted… She did it all!

She was a woman of deep faith and it was her faith that sustained her in her final days. She could be heard reciting her favorite scripture Isaiah 41:10-13.

We look forward to the day when we are reunited with her, as Jesus, our Ransomer, promised at John 5:28, 29, “Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out...to a resurrection of life.”

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the nurses in the Palliative Care Ward at the Pasqua Hospital, especially Maria, Ailynn, Cassidy, Sarah and Kate as well as the nurses at Grace Hospice for their compassion and care.
